Project Title : Failure Analysis and optimization of Crankshaft in Diesel Locomotive.
Location :Southern railway workshop, Ponmalai, TRICHY. Description : This project is about the analysis of various causes of failure of crankshaft in diesel locomotive engine. It is found that the cost of the crankshaft is very high whereas the life cycle is not satisfactory. The possible ways of minimizing the failure effects are briefly studied from the past failure specimen. The load bearing capacity of the crankshaft is theoretically calculated and compared with the actual load acting on the crankshaft. The remedy for maximizing the life cycle of crankshaft was found and suggestions were made to reduce the frictional forces acting on the shaft thus preventing the excessive wear and deformation of the crankshaft. Thus the life cycle of crankshaft is increased and the cost of maintenance is reduced. Personal Details:
