Consultant/Contractor

OSI / Cs-net

Aug 2012 – Nov 2014

Independent Consultant/ Contractor,

Assisting in the successful deployment of a Sub Sea Network for OSI Clients that will provide bandwidth to an underwater observatory already in service, As well as providing bandwidth to Off shore platforms In the near future as well as providing commercial services in the near future to other carriers in the region.

The purpose of this subsea network Deployment is to facilitate the Migration from the existing Buoy System

Presently providing Uplink and downlink Communication via V-Sat and Migrate it 300Km or so to 2 landing station off the coast of Cyprus Via a new dual conductor cable especially ordered through Tycom Subsea.

Research and Development

I was proactively involved with the building of a cable simulator along with 5 Node load simulator in a lab environment for future energizing using a dual feed 2100 VDC power supplies to be converted to active PFE's These test concluded that we could maintain proper powering requirements to the Sub Sea Network in several operational scenarios as well as in a linear state if there happens to be any shunt faults/cable cuts or similar impairments.

As project moved forward I provided EF&I guidance to the team and worked together with the team to establish a network simulator for the existing sub-sea wet-plant transmission/receiving equipment to be housed in a portable case for testing purposes of an end to end test that will involve 1550nm transmission using 1 Gig class A laser through a Tyco legacy DWDM OOF Erbium doped amplifier/ repeater system

Test and Turn up Training was for 1 week and I am now certified to work on Infinera Gear

Two weeks after completing training in Sunnyvale, California I was invited to follow up on my training with them but for their submarine group that is based in Annapolis MD. This training was more geared towards Sub Sea Ultra long haul deployments soon to be taking place for several of their customers.

As of June 10,2012 I was sent to St Croix,USVI to commence commission of 3 DTC Expansion Nodes/Racks and 1 Rack that housed the 2 OTC/ Amplifiers shelfs.

On Site at the Global Crossing/Level 3 sub-sea cable station to accept all shipments from Infinera as well as various installation materials, RR, ADC Fiber duct,Power cables,Lugs, tools exc.

Upon Acceptance of such deliveries, We scanned all Infinera Gear into our personal database that would later be shared with the teams. All materials were checked and Installation commenced and all activities that were planned were accomplished in a timely matter.

Once all hardware was installed . All nodes and OTC were powered up and all Fiber cable and

Data communications were installed for remote OMP.

Presently waiting for a pair of Line fibers from Level 3 and also waiting for Costa Rica, Panama, Venezuela, Mazatlan to be ready for Link Testing and Optimizing Transmissions.

Returned to the States, On going partnership.

Assisted my employer in the deployment of all Corvis Corwave Elements Equip to the field. Instrumental at Deploying true all Optical long haul transport equipment to Carriers locations throughout the USA. Primary responsibilities assist in all Field Operations duties including CSO dept. Deployments meant me going out to do site surveys in the field to meet the POP or Co-locate manager for that particular site to discuss installation issues, Site survey walk thru with site lead to determine if all the Engineering Spec handed down meet customer Engineering Spec's. I would meet the Corvis equipment and contractors hired by my company in the field to due the installation of such equipment at the customers Network locations. Provided onsite support engineering for the contractors and make sure that the installations meet all Telcordia standards, as well as all of Corvis standards and the customer standards. Assisted customers technicians and Engineers on training and functions related to the system deployed and maintenance techniques. Upon completion of installation I would perform power up’s of the equipment installed and check for proper Voltages, Test A and B powers. Turn -up all the Modules and check for proper operation’s and then splice fiber optics that interconnects to customer network fiber as well as fibers the interconnect the Corvis Optical Element at that site. It could be a node location or a line-amp site. Worked closely with all engineering teams. I supported LAN/WAN, issues of overhead communication using Dantel 64Kbs order wire equipment and Ethernet issues of Corvis to customers’ network. Troubleshoot all Module cards and hardware issues while in the field. I would replace bad modules to the customer if a problem was found to be within Module itself like end of life. Testing of all hardware and firmware at location. Working closely with Corvis Engineers to do Link testing OSNR measurement across the C band 1530mn – 1565nm spectrum to use the data obtained from the OSNR to Groom and Flatten our Optical signal for optimal performance to that link. When the network was fully deployed I would travel back out to the field to due OC-48 and OC-192 BER testing along with any other requests made by the Engineering Teams for me to assist them at resolving any other issues at any given location.

In 2000 Corvis made news when they announced the arrival of the First All Optical Switch to market. I was privileged to have had the opportunity to play a role in the Optical Switch being deployed into the customers Network. The First all Optical 4, 5, and 6 port Switch ever deployed into a network was for Broadwing Communications Inc. In mid 2000 when they announced they would be the first to ever deploy a truly all-optical network across the United States.
