Accounting Team Lead

Manage the area of broadcast, digital and retransmission revenue for the company’s 14 broadcast TV stations, 57 radio stations, and more than 100 digital services. The revenue for digital and retransmission were in excess of $71M and $176M respectively.

Responsible for reviewing and approving the work product of direct reports.

Designed process to map revenue to the general ledger from Wide Orbit, the company’s newest broadcast revenue subledger implemented in 2015.

Collaborate with various market controllers and financial leaders in order to resolve complex questions and/or problems.

Review and approve balance sheet accounts.

Perform balance sheet account reconciliations and bank reconciliations within the shared services environment for more than 100 balance sheet accounts monthly.

Senior Accountant

Part of the initial team to implement a centralized shared services accounting environment for all of Cox Media Group’s newspaper, radio and television properties. Instrumental in creating the initial Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and accounting processes for this new department.

Streamlined and automated the accrual process for CMG. The new process significantly reduced processing time to record the CMG facility – wide monthly accrual.

Made process changes to other accounting functions such as the 401K allocation and accrual, the CDS Reach intra-company billing process, and the Wheels inter-company fuel allocation process. These process changes improved processing time and efficiency. In the case of the wheels allocation processing time was reduced from over one day to less than one – half day.

Set – up and maintained account reconciliations of various CMG facilities using Blackline Systems accounting software.

Performed month – end procedures for all Cox Media Group’s (CMG) print, radio, and television companies within the shared services environment.

Process included implementing a method of paying independent contractors delivering products and invoicing the media partner for the deliveries.

Streamlined accounting’s process for reporting 3rd party draws statistics. The new process enabled one accountant to produce data that normally required three accountants.

Performed month-end procedures related to circulation and financial reporting.

Analyzed expenses related to the circulation department and performed detailed variance analysis. Worked with circulation managers on capturing expenses and accruals. Prepared reports and distributed to senior managers to aid in analysis.
