Experience
Methylation Analysis Research (June 2014 - May 2015), ASU Biomedical
Informatics program working under Dr Valentin Dinu. Aimed to compare
methylation of genome-wide markers between lean and obese groups using
statistical methods (SAS) and pathway analysis (DAVID) to determine
potential genomic locations and genes which may contribute to insulin
resistance.
Intern/Helios Scholars Program (Summer 2010), Translational Genomics
Research Institute (TGen) - Working under Dr. David Craig, Neurogenomics
Division, Bioinformatics Research Unit, developed an annotator program in
Java to parse through DNA and identify codons containing SNPs in order to
help determine their significance in causing genetic disorders. The
program used information from VCF, UCSC gene, and FASTA file formats.
CAS Program (2005-2009) - Successfully completed 4-year CAS program
required for IB degree, consisting of activities relating to Creativity,
Activity and Service, including Web site development, scuba certification
training and numerous volunteer activities under the review of various
adult mentors
Council of Elders, Villa Montessori School (2008) - Sat on the Council as
an alumni and interviewed middle school students who were completing their
"Heroic Journey" requirements prior to graduation from the program
Back to School Clothing Drive (2005-2008) - Volunteered yearly to assist
with set up of the program and worked as a student guide in 2008, assisting
children with their selection of clothing
Precinct Poll Worker (2008) - Primary and General Elections, assisting
voters with sign in and equipment
Lawn mowing service (2007-2009) - Self-employed to provide neighborhood
lawn service
