Professional Experience

St. Joseph's Hospital Health Care Facility, Syracuse NY

Boiler Operator 1997 to Pres.

Maintain constant supervision of operation of powerhouse equipment, including a Mercury 50 gas turbine, for process and sterilization of operating rooms and equipment. Maintain and operate 23 boilers for emergency recovery of steam pressure. Experienced with start ups, shutdowns, fuel transfers, boiler switchovers, combustion analyst, blowdowns, stack temps and other powerhouse operations. Responsibilities include:

• Cleaning and servicing boilers and burners, including flushing tanks, return tanks, DA tanks, etc.; performing all preventative maintenance (monthly, quarterly, weekly); maintaining a spotless boilerhouse

• Tear down and reassembly of boilers during state inspections

• Fuel transfers from oil to natural gas to propane

• Chemical testing of boiler water, feedwater, return water, make up water, DA water, tower water and softeners, and making accurate adjustments

• Walking through checklist checkout readings on pressure, temperature gauges, oil levels, back-up systems, etc., and entering data into computer logs, four times per shift

• Maintaining equipment including changing gaskets, tanks, boilers, change-out pumps, motors and belts, greasing bearings, and fixing leaks in piping

• Assisting mechanical shop with PM, rebuilding of med air / med vacuum pumps, chiller PM and various project work throughout the hospital

• Monitoring alarms on printer for entire hospital; handling 24-hour emergency service calls (on-call)
