JOB DESCRIPTION
MEDICAL-SURGICAL
Renders professional care to the patients.
Performs nursing techniques for the comfort and well-being of the patients.
Prepares equipment and assists physicians during treatment an examination of patients.
Administers prescribed medication, orally and parenteral; provides treatment using therapeutic equipment; observes patient’s reaction to medications and treatments; observes progress of intravenous infusions and subcutaneous infiltration
Changes or assists physicians in changing dressings and cleaning wound or incisions.
Takes temperature, pulse, respiratory rate, blood pressure, and heartbeat to detect deviations from normal and gauge progress of patient.
Assess, observes, records and reports to head nurse, charge nurse, supervisor, or physician patients’ condition and reactions to drugs, treatment, and significant incidents.
Maintains patients’ medical records on nursing observations and actions taken such as, medications and treatment given, reactions, tests and intake and emissions of liquid and solids, TPR; records nursing needs of patient to ensure continuity of care.
Observes emotional stability of patients, expresses interest in their progress, and prepares them for continuing care after discharge.
Explains procedures and treatments ordered to gain patient’s cooperation and ally apprehension.
Rotates on day, evening, and night tours of duty and maybe asked to rotate among various clinical and nursing services of Saviour International Hospital.
Serve as a team leader for a group of personnel rendering nursing care to a number of patients.
Assists in planning, supervising, and instructing nursing aides, orderlies, technicians, ward clerks and trainees; demonstrate nursing techniques and procedures, and assists non-professional nursing care personnel in rendering in the care unit.
EMERGENCY ROOM
Assess and performs triage in emergency room.
Identifies needs and problems of patient and refer to resident on- duty following the triage system.
Assists the resident on- duty in the administration of specialized therapy and performance of procedures.
Renders emergency care as per resident on- duty instruction and written protocols.
Coordinates patient admission and endorses patient to ward nurses.
Responds to any “code blue” in the hospital.
Responds to emergency ambulance conduction and transfer.
Give ambulance orientation to new drivers.
Gives orientation to cross-trained nurses assigned in the ER.
Maintains sufficient medical stocks and supplies in the ER.
Conducts daily and monthly inventory of ER equipment and supplies.
Supervises the ambulance drivers in performing their duties and responsibilities.
Checks all ambulance gadgets and equipment daily.
Controls human traffic in ER area.
Admits patients in ER in the absence of the admitting officer.
OPERATING ROOM
SCRUB
Checks the schedule and type of operation, anesthesia, and surgeon who will perform the operation and the operating instruments to be used.
Prepares the sterile field of operation.
Assist with immediate preparation of the patient.
Assist the surgeon during operation.
Count instruments and sponges with circulating nurse.
Prepares sterile dressing when the operation is complete.
Cares for the instruments after operation.
Endorses patient to ward nurses after the operation.
Prepares OR for the next operation.
CIRCULATING
Checks the schedule and time of operation.
Prepares and arranges the supplies and equipment needed for the operation.
Assists the co-nurses and the doctors in wearing gloves and gowns.
Unwrap packages and supplies during the operation.
Assist the scrub nurse during the operation.
Count sponges at appropriate time.
Takes care of needs of the entire operating team throughout the operation period.
Supervises general cleaning and rearrangement of OR in preparation to the next operation.
Checks forms for the next operation.
