LABOR WARD
OBSTETRIC AND GYNAECOLOGY MODULE
1.The officer is a Registered Midwife in Labor Ward since 1st November 2008. In Obstetric and Gynaecological Module during the period she also worked in Post Natal and Ante Natal Section for a few months as :-
A)Rotation Shift Leader (Labor Ward)
-Together with the Operational Manager participate in management of Human and Financial Resources to fulfil ward operational functions.
-Orientate new staff or delegate
-Write requisition for faulty equipment or follow up on repairs
-Allocate staff for in-service training
-Attend any meetings when Operational Manager is not available
-Check infant warmers, Emergency Trolleys and Defibrillators
B)After Hour Manager (Management Office)
-Together with Assistant Manager of Nursing participate in Planning, Implementation, Monitoring and Evaluation of the different hospital Modules.
-i.e Obs and Gynae, Paediatrics, Trauma Medical and Surgical Modules
C)Module Co-ordinator (Obstetric and Gynae Module)
-Ensures adequate staffing of the module wards for delivery of better patient care.
D)Allocate staff according to the unit cubicles.
-Check availability of daily equipment
-Attend to concerns, queries and complaints of the patient and their families.
-Regulate tea and launch breaks
-Monitor attendance register and absenteeism
-Audit birth Registers
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
MIDWIFERY
-Participate in midwifery led labour and delivery of normal and complicated childbirth
-Manage physiology of all stages of normal labour by creating a sound private birth environment
-Repair and perform episiotomy
-Initial neonatal resuscitation and initial neonatal physical examinations
POST NATAL
-Assist and promote breast-feeding and other feeding methods
-Post traumatic counselling in complicated stressful deliveries childbirths
-Bereavement counselling to foetal anomalies and death loss
Considerate, Courteous, Supportive and understand women issues. That is Family Planning, STI’s, Breast-feeding.
Use qualifications, experience, knowledge and skills to provide women with optimal care.
MANAGEMENT AND ADMINSTRATIVE
Co-ordinate daily nursing in labour ward Communicate with multi-disciplinary health team educate junior and new challenges about Actions and Response in emergencies e.g FHR patterns and decals on CTG.
-Staff allocation, Motivation and Development.
-Help in maintaining accurate documentation and concise medical recording.
-Involved in Planning, Organising, Directing and Controlling its labor ward functioning.
-Re-allocate staff to address shortages e.g when a colleague is sick, by co-ordinating extra staff from different wards of the Obstetric and Gynae Module.
-Gather statistics information
-Participate in compiling of annual operational plan of unit.
-Participate in planning, implementing, monitoring and evaluation of patient care.
-Support post-graduate and under-graduate students
-Health education, health promotion and health life-style motivator. E.g condom use, ANC Screening tests
-Perform ward rounds to ensure delivery of pt care. These ensures that new-borns are prevented from unnecessary complications
