PROJECT:
TITLE: Transient behavior of different transformer windings under lightning impulse and very fast transient over voltages (VFTO).
DETAILS:
The project involves studying and analyzing the behavior of identical disc and interleaved windings of 22 kV ratings when over voltages occurring either due to natural phenomena such as lightning or due to the switching operation of the disconnector switches in a Gas Insulated Substation (GIS). When an oil immersed transformer is connected to a GIS, the transients occurring due to the operation of the disconnector switches has a rise time in the scale of 10 to hundreds of nanoseconds (ns) which is termed as Very Fast Transient Over voltages (VFTO). The standard lightning impulse of 1.2/50 µs and VFTO of 166/660 ns are simulated and is applied on the lumped parameter model of the transformer windings using PSPICE software.
