PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
UNITED BANK OF PHILADELPHIA
Philadelphia, PA
Senior Vice President / Senior Lending Officer 08/2013 to 06/2015
Situation: In August of 2013 I was recruited to take the senior lending officer position at a capital challenged community bank focused on minorities, urban development and non-profit entities.
Challenges: The bank is under a consent order, undercapitalized and on the problem bank list of the FDIC. The bank's loan to one borrower limit is very small creating substantial competitive disadvantages.
Achievements: In the first few months, I quadrupled the loan production and met the classified loan percentage requirements of their consent order. The FDIC raised asset quality under my direction. I structured a detailed business plan that recognized the limited capital and focused on recycling capital through the sale of SBA guaranteed loans and short term construction loans. My plan efficiently utilized the available capital to generate $12 million in new business loans last year.
I forecasted $12-$16 Million in SBA loans exclusively in the first 6 months of 2015 and I originated $10 million by June against a personal annual goal of $8 million.
I changed loan policy which excluded hospitality loans and applied my expertise in restaurant and bar lending along with hotel/motel lending to take advantage of the rapid growth in this area. These credits have been most profitable for the bank.
I have funded some of the area's best known celebrity chefs and other award winning establishments with great success.
FDIC (FEDERAL DEPOSIT INSURANCE CORPORATION)
New York Regional Branch, Philadelphia Field Office
Loan Review Specialist /Bank Examiner 10/2010 to 08/2013
Situation: In October 2010 I was recruited from my Vice President position at Hyperion Bank by the Philadelphia regional executive of the FDIC, Tyler Bland.
I joined an elite task force, “their smoke jumpers” comprised of professional commercial lenders and investment bankers who evaluated troubled banks and strategized paths to repair or close these institutions. This was a temporary contract which was extended beyond the original planned two-year term
Challenges: The Mid-Atlantic region had 40% of its community banks on the troubled bank list. The Federal Reserve Bank had accepted hundreds of millions of loans as collateral and their reviewers lacked the experience to properly assess the loan quality.
The nation’s banking system had almost collapsed and many institutions were in danger of failure.
Achievements: The FDIC used my experience to assist community bankers in the Carolinas, Maryland, Georgia and Florida.
Because of my knowledge of large loans and investment banking I was often assigned to the highest level task force in New York where I examined the largest banks in New York working with the Federal Reserve, OCC and state regulators.
I spent 9 months working in New York securing some of the nation's largest banks and preparing them for Dodd-Frank regulatory implementation.
I specialized in analyzing complex credits, work out credits and large real estate loans.
HYPERION BANK
Philadelphia, PA
Vice President / Commercial Lending Officer 05/2009 to 10/2010
Situation: I joined this 3 year old community bank as a Vice President of Commercial Lending.
Challenges: The bank had been under a regulatory Memorandum of Understanding for a high degree of poor quality loans and insufficient capital. The loans to one borrower limit was very low.
Achievements: I split my focus into improving the performance of existing loans and generating new high quality well secured loans. I worked closely with the CEO and added as much in new loans as their limited capital could handle, about $7-$9 million in new loans annually. I led the introduction of a new SBA lending program. I introduced more short term construction financing to recycle capital. I improved loan ratings by improving underwriting, portfolio management and better management of the existing business clients.
M&T BANK AND TRUST
Horsham, PA
Vice President / Senior Business Banking Officer 01/2005 to 04/2009
Situation: I was recruited from my position at PNC Bank to take a senior business banking position and managed most of the Philadelphia business clients for this regional bank. I oversaw the business development activities of 5 branches and led a business banking team to improve the region’s business development activities.
Challenges: The bank had limited presence in the Philadelphia market and was closing branches and limiting their lending. During this time, the 2008 crash occurred and the bank ceased lending to all but the very strongest borrowers. By April 2009, when the stock market bottomed out, the bank ceased all new lending for over 6 months.
Achievements: I worked closely with multiple branch managers training them to handle the smaller business clients and trained them in prospecting and networking. I added between $7 to $10 million in new loan business annually. I managed a tight portfolio with over 95% retention through the 2008 economic collapse.
PNC BANK na
Philadelphia, PA
Senior Business Banking Officer, AVP 01/1998 to 01/2005
Situation: At this large super-regional bank I held the following positions:
Health Care Commercial Lending Group: Senior Business Banking Officer: Business Banking Specialist: Sector service manager .Sector Sales manager.
Challenges: The bank was growing rapidly and testing new business models. At times I managed 10 branches, over 70 staff and conducted extensive training. Due to my success in new business development and business banking, I was promoted and asked to specialize in that area.
Achievements: As a business banker, I had the highest goals in the Philadelphia area and consistently hit 300% of my loan goal and 200% of deposit goal. I ranked in the top 5 Business Bankers in the entire company 2003, 2004, 2005 and awarded multiple awards and trips. I received the company’s highest award, The Chairman’s Award, the MVP for lending multiple years, awarded the Circle of Excellence multiple years.
COMMONWEALTH BANK
Norristown, PA
Sales and Marketing Manager 01/1995 to 01/1998
Situation: This was a mutual savings bank that wanted to grow and go public. They were expanding their footprint using supermarket branches as they were quick to build and relatively inexpensive.
Challenges: The bank had previously done only CDs and Mortgages. It needed to grow fast. We finished with 54 branches total, 17 of which were supermarket branches.
Achievements: I worked closely with the corporate management to grow this division from 5 to17 units adding 3 branches a year, hiring and training the staff to sell.
I managed a 17-branch network of in-supermarket full service supermarket branches. I prepared income and expense numbers for the shareholder’s quarterly report. I prepared proforma projections for new branches and did statistical analysis to support projected sales. The branches grew to be some of the fastest growing banks in the region and led the bank to sell to Citizen’s Bank for a high premium.
SOUTHLAND CORPORATION / 7-ELEVEN CORPORATION

Field Consultant/ Regional Manager 01/1993 to 01/1995
Situation: Supervised franchised operations. Managed financial performance of
franchised stores in a designated region. Monitored sales growth, profits,

Challenges: The Philadelphia region had been in decline and the stores needed upgrades in appearance, strategy and technology.
Achievements: Led the new technology team supervising computer upgrades and training across PA, DE, and MD at over 40 store locations. GENERAL MACHINE CORPORATION/ BELMONT INDUSTRIES
Philadelphia, PA
Director of Marketing and Sales 01/1989 to 01/1993
Situation: I was hired to increase contract fabrication and machining sales for an aging metalworking shop.

Achievements: I worked with their key clients to win back their quality award; I purchased and installed new equipment for these two shops. I was asked to assist the related companies and helped them by adding better machinery, improving production and cutting costs. I doubled the volume of some of their shops and added new business from GE turbine plants. I reverse engineered purchased parts and made product manufacturing 100% vertically integrated.
