MAJOR PROJECTS:
Coordination Study: Senior Project Sponsored by Portland General
Electric
Worked with a team to perform a coordination study of the 4160 and 480 VAC
systems at a local power plant.
Calculated worst case fault currents, taking into account symmetrical and
asymmetrical fault currents.
Researched protection devices and reproduced overload curves in MATLAB.
Used one-line diagrams of the plant to plot fault currents against
corresponding protection devices to ensure proper coordination.
System Planning: Power Systems I-II Projects
Analyzed power flows and contingency violations in a hypothetical local
power grid with PowerWorld Simulator.
Made recommendations for addition of new transmission lines and
transformers to eliminate contingency violations, reduce system losses, and
accommodate the additional load of a new substation.
Chose system additions from available rights of ways, conductor types, and
tower configurations.
Calculated least expensive system additions based on construction costs
minus savings due to decreased system losses.
Microprocessor Interfacing Projects
Created interface drivers in assembly language for an ARM-core 32-bit
microprocessor.
Worked with RS-232 and I2C interfaces.
Voltage Controlled Oscillator (VCO) Design: Electronics I-II Project
Developed at the transistor level a VCO design using bi-polar models in LT-
Spice.
Designed all necessary blocks, including the Op-amp.
Graphical Equalizer: Signals & Systems II Project
Implemented a six-band graphical equalizer in MATLAB.
Included a graphical user interface and real-time plots showing Power
Spectral Density (PSD) of the original and filtered signal.
