May 2014 - to date: - Bunge Ltd, London - Container Operations Manager
I was approached to Join Bunge to take control of their White Sugar
Container operations Department as they planned to expand into this area;
my remit is to:-
. Build and train a professional team to service white sugar traders based
in Geneva
. Introduce changes and new systems to make the department more efficient
. Assist Traders to develop and expand the White Sugar trading in
Containers
. Stock Control.
. Raise Bunge's reputation in the white sugar market
Many improvements have been achieved in a short time, which is openly
acknowledged by traders and management. The company is now starting to grow
in this area and experiencing success. However due to global restructure
the company has recently decided on a long term plan that will eventually
lead to the closure of the London office and possible relocation to Geneva.
April 1994 - April 2014: E D & F Man Group, London
2004 to 2014 - London Head Office - Container Operations Manager- Sugar
Division
I started at ED&F Man head office initially to establish and maintain a
European sugar distribution business working with the MD from my previous
job at James Budget. I was also requested to work on a special project for
ED& F Man, transporting a dismantled sugar refinery from Ireland to
Israel and Russia. On completion of this project I was promoted to
Container Operations Manager at a time when trading shifted from
predominantly EU exports to global trading and distribution of sugar. I
started with a team of 3 people which over the years expanded to 8 people
as the business grew and moved into different areas. The areas covered by
my department and managed by me included.
. International movement of sugar by containers and all relevant
documentary requirements including import and export licenses.
. Full end to end logistical supply of sugar from raw material supplier
to manufacture
. Letters of Credit & Bank Collections
. Storage of Sugar in Europe
. Stock control
. EU distribution of sugar by road
. Maintenance of the companies Organic & Fair Trade certification and
compliance with operating regulations
. Compliance with EU vat regulations
. Import and export licenses
In addition I was involved in training new operations staff and training of
new sugar traders about the importance of the operational role. I also
attended regular meeting to discuss and implement departmental improvements
and change
1994 to 2004 - James Budget Sugar, Chelmsford, Essex - Distribution and
Account Manager: -
My role at James Budget was initially as an account Manager visiting a
network of customers throughout the UK primarily to provide a personal
customer service and maintain a strong business relationship. I was also
responsible to negotiate prices for the continuation of their annual supply
contract. Because of my previous extensive logistical experience, this
progressed to also managing the distribution department. At this time I
additional worked closely with the Managing Director to set up a successful
European distribution service and export/import business
My responsibility:
. Face to Face client customer service and contract negotiation
. Manage a team of 2 people to control UK distribution of Sugar road
tankers and trailers
. Single handed control of EU distribution of Sugar by road, rail &
container including booking and negotiation of freight
. Single handed control of EU export & import of sugars by containers,
including negotiation of freight costs

S Daniels PLC - Shipping and Administration Manager
I was employed to work with a team of traders trading in a variety of
commodities including Honey, Sugar & Edible nuts. This position lasted for
approx. 1 year before the company decided to relocate to the north of
England at which time they recommended my services to James Budgett Sugars
Ltd
Napier Brown Produce
Senior Administrator, I joined this company at its conception and was
responsible for setting up the administration systems to cope with a new
trading department. This was mainly trading in Edible Nuts and Dried Fruit.
After 3 years I was approached to join S Daniels PLC
Gill & Duffus Ltd
I was with Gill & Duffus for about 12 years during which I had operational
roles in a number of departments, starting in Petrochemicals followed by
Cocoa Department and then G&D Landauer, trading in edible nuts, canned
goods, rice paper, animal skins & olive oil. At the time of leaving I had
progressed within this last department to controlling the trading positions
for the whole trading team and working as liaison with the shipping
department to monitor contract performance
EDUCATION:
Most relevant qualification is a degree in Logistics and Transport which I
gained during my own time whilst working at James Budgett.
