Served as Building Manager and Safety Coordinator for the Klystron and Microwave Department (KMD), a 35,000 sq
f t high hazard manufacturing, engineering, testing R&D industrial facility with unique hazards including high voltage
electrical, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation, hazardous materials and waste, f lammable and inert gases, cryogenics,
p ressure vessels, heavy materials handling and crane activities. Included several satellite locations on linear
accelerator and other buildings. As such, duties included:
• P roject Management – P roject manager for all minor program and operational related construction projects
a ffecting conventional facilities such as installations and decommissioning of portable and fixed equipment
i nstallations (lathes, mills, furnaces, and test equipment), safety alarm or monitoring equipment. Drafted CAD
engineering drawings/sketches as needed for all modifications.
• Envi ronmental Health and Safety T raining Coordinator - Assisted line supervisors with employee job
hazard assessments to identify appropriate safety and health training, medical, and PPE requirements to ensure
employees meet their t raining requirements and identify restricted activities as necessary; Assist employees as
needed with scheduling required safety training and reported monthly and annually; Periodic, annual review of
employee Activity and Training Authorizations (ATA) and maintenance of electronic storage records.
• Document Control - responsible for the electronic storage and control of KMD procedures including
administrative documents, technical notes, standard operating procedures, equipment lockout tagout procedures.
• I ncident I nvestigator - Performed accident/incident investigations and generated necessary investigation
reports for KMD (and others) utilizing the Apollo Accident and Incident Investigation method as well as DOE
i ncident investigation reporting methods.
• Hazardous Waste and M ate rials Coordinator (HW MC) - Served as the HWMC for the KMD which included
development of department chemical inventory database; Identification/documentation of all hazardous waste
streams; characterizing all waste for proper disposal; Establishing and setting-up all department waste collection
and disposal stations; documentation of all procedures for proper disposal; performing weekly Chemical Asset
I nspections; and Processing all department hazardous waste disposals in cooperation with Waste Management
G roup requirements.
• Site Safety Committee Member - Served one or more 3 year terms as a committee member for the following
S LAC Site Safety Committees: Operational Safety; Building Manager; Electrical Safety; Environmental Safety;
H azard Waste/Materials Safety; Hoisting & Rigging Safety; Lead Safety; Non-Ionizing Radiation Safety; and ESH
T raining.
• Site Safety Assessments – Accompanied Associate Director of the Laboratory to perform annual site safety
i nspections with and lead various multiple city, county and OSHA inspections/assessments.
