I am looking for a career as a Research Professional in the field of
biology or biotechnology. I have experience in microbiology, media prep,
DNA extractions and PCR. I would love the opportunity to use my previous
experience, gain new research skills, and be part of a productive research
team. I have knowledge of GMP practices and like to provide the attention
to detail that is required in a laboratory setting.
EDUCATION:
California State University of Bakersfield
January 2007 - June 2012
B.S. Biology with minor in Chemistry Cum
Laude
ACADEMIC RESEARCH EXPERIENCE:
Under Dr. Kathy Szick-Miranda, PhD, I isolated cutaneous pathogens from
known species of bull frogs and boreal toads, and extracted the bacterial
DNA to be sent off for sequencing. I performed challenge assays with the
isolated colonies against a known environmental fungus, Basidiobolus
ranarum (Br.), and the fungus Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis (Bd), to
determine if they posses antifungal properties. Currently Bd is
responsible for wiping out frog and toad populations across the nation by a
disease known as Chytridiomycosis. The ultimate goal of this research is
to provide insight into the conservation of these amphibians and possible
application for human antifungal medications.
Responsibilities:
. Sterile media prep
. Sterile bacteria culture
. DNA extraction
. PCR
. Gram Staining
. Challenge Assays
. Coordinate with project team
EMPLOYMENT EXPERIENCE
Clean Harbors West
Sacramento, CA
As an Insite Chemist at Genentech in Vacaville, I have successfully managed
their hazardous waste since April, 2014. I have helped them to remain in
compliance with state and federal regulations by providing the proper
labels for ongoing waste streams, such as HPLC waste, ensuring the waste
does not accumulate past its allotted time frame (i.e.: in the 90 day
accumulation areas), and by packing the waste properly for shipment. I
maintain chemical knowledge in regards to what waste streams are compatible
and what hazards the waste chemicals possess.
Responsibilities:
. Follow site specific S.O.P.'s regarding all areas of access
. Understanding of cGMP and Fit for Use protocol
. D.O.T. and RCRA trained and certified
. 40 Hour OSHA certified
. Generate federal documents for shipment of waste
