POST GRADUATE PROJECT:

Title: Design and Analysis of Vertical Axis Wind Turbine for Domestic Purpose.

Description: To analyze the effectiveness of a VAWT, methods of computational fluid dynamics

(CFD) were used to simulate various airflows. The analysis began with a literature analysis into

the subject, in order to determine the types of airfoils that were most effective, XFOIL software

is used. Then the airfoil is tested in Wind Tunnel at different angle of attack and various wind

speed (3-9 m/s) .After the research was done, the system was modeled in CATIAV5 and imported

into ICEM CFD to perform a CFD analysis. The first part of the CFD analysis analyzed the 2D

flow over the airfoil. The 2D simulations used different angles of attack and speeds (3 -9 m/s) to

determine when separation occurred at the various speeds. Finally, a full VAWT assembly was

created and analyzed at various wind speeds to predict the power output of VAWT.

PAPER PRESENTED:

Presented a paper entitled on “Design and Analysis of Vertical Axis Wind Turbine for

Domestic Purpose” at International Conference on Recent Advances in Mechanical

Engineering and Interdisciplinary Developments.

ACHIEVEMENTS:

Got best paper award for “Design and Analysis of Vertical Axis Wind Turbine for

Domestic Purpose” at International Conference on Recent Advances in Mechanical

Engineering and Interdisciplinary Developments 2014.

My Project is suggested for INEA award by SriVenkateswara College of Engineering.
