Have continually worked strictly in a contract/freelance capacity as an Art Director or designer on a variety of projects. Some of the companies I’ve done work are: AAFES (Army, Airforce, Exchange Service); Texas Stampede, DPublishing, Level Two Ad Agency, Freeman Companies, Lockton-Dunning, Dave & Busters even the Dallas Cowboys in conjunction with the National Football Association and the sports marketing company, Fishbait Marketing.

Idearc Media – Dallas, Texas

Creative/Art Director (Solutions At Home Magazine) - October 2006 - July 2008

Set up and managed the art department which produced 10 separate magazines, Solutions at Home. Each publication was in a different market in our Mid-Atlantic division. After setting up the department, Oversaw the hiring and managing of 8 designers and freelancers, and a traffic coordinator. Also set up the editorial and design production workflows within the department. Created the publication initial design concept, which also included other sales and marketing collateral. This led to working in a team effort, in establishing a branded set of guidelines for all of the SAH products, including magazines, logos, direct mailers, signage, billboards and the online presence. Finally, working with each of 7 sales offices, managed to maintain running totals of all ad sales, managing monthly paginations for each book in addition to overseeing post mortems and “End Of Month” sales and production reports.

Morris Communications – Dallas, Texas

Art Director (Dallas Home Design Magazine) - February 2003 - November 2005

Would oversee both design and production of the monthly interior design publication, Dallas Home Design. This entailed creating all editorial layouts and occasionally various ads for each monthly issue. In addition, would direct all photo shoots pertaining to all homes featured each month as well as those for individual editorial department pages. Working closely with the publisher, editor and sales staff, would also maintain the monthly pagination and incoming inserts. Remotely managed 3 designers who worked on the majority of all ads each month. During final production cycles, all pages would be prepped for prepress working in an Adobe Acrobat press work flow eventually maintaining all post-mortem reports. Lastly, would work closely with the corporate office on maintaining the magazine’s brand, incorporating sales aids and marketing collateral, direct mailers, signage, billboards, even trade show and event displays and materials.

JCPenney Corporation, Inc. – Dallas, Texas

Packaging Designer - June 2001 - September 2002

Working in cooperation with Brand Development and the senior art director, focused on creating packaging, inserts, hang tags and labels for several retail product lines i.e. Wee Essentials, Basics, Arizona Mens, Total Girl, Ruling Class, Hunt Club, both Stafford and Stafford Executive among others. Redesigned all package pieces, labels, and hangtags for the Wee Essentials infant/toddler clothing line; also assisted in the redesign and rebranding of the Arizona Mens products line. Finally as part of a team effort, assisted in developing an in-house archival project database by maintaining and uploading graphics/layouts for inter-departmental access.

Excel Communications, Inc. – Dallas, Texas

Senior Designer - July 1999 - June 2001

Working both individually and on team efforts, created all collateral for the company which included items pertaining to product marketing and advertising; corporate communications and the company magazine. With Excel, utilizing a multi-level marketing corporate type, also oversaw projects aimed at the rep sales force i.e. company information, collateral pertaining to the company mission, product sales aids, the sales opportunity and finally training materials. In addition to the creative side, assisted in establishing a procedural process for the Creative Services department which included designers, copywriters, vendors as well as corporate business unit clients. Finally, assisted in coordinating on the maintenance and upgrades of all computer systems in the creative department for all designers and copywriters.

Major Accomplishments

1. Created and produced all collateral for the HR’s recruitment drive.

2. Worked on a complete redesign to the Reps Guide to Advertising Kit which included the manual, series of print ads and other collateral with an accompanying CD-Rom.

3. Oversaw the major project redesign and production of the major Corporate Brochure, which gave a companywide overview of the corporate entity, its history, mission, product line, opportunity offerings and projected future goals.
