AREAS OF EXPERTISE

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Ogin, Inc. (Formerly FloDesign Wind Turbine), Waltham, MA 07/12 – 06/14

A venture-backed developer of high efficiency shrouded wind turbine technology. This innovative design represents a novel

application of well-proven aerodynamic technology known as a mixer/ejector that has been used in military and commercial

aircraft since the 1970s to improve jet engine performance.

Senior Materials Engineer

Responsible for materials’ selections for high efficiency wind turbines. The materials include thermoset resins, e-glass reinforcement,

structutal adhesives, structural cores, steel. Also responsible for maintaining a comprehensive Material Properties data base from which

properties have been used in FEA Calculations.

• Successfully selected various materials and processes to reduce the turbine shroud & blade weight to minimize cost and increase

parts production. The benefits of these selections have been validated by FEA analysis.

• Maintains liaison between Engineering & Supply Chain by working closely with both groups.

KaZaK Composites,Woburn, MA 04/07 – 06/12

Leading manufacturer of high-performance engineered composites materials for government and non-government

applications with Phase I, Phase II SBIR projects.

Composites Engineer

Responsible for design, development, manufacturing and marketing of high performance composites materials with phenolic, epoxy

(including prepreg), vinyl ester, urethane acrylate, cyanate ester and bismaleimide (BMI) resins. Processes used include: Pultrusion, Press

Molding, VARTM, and Vacuum Bagging. Developed low-density formulations with thermoplastics polyurethane (TPU) for critical

applications requiring lower weight for Navy applications. Developed experience with various types of reinforcing fibers including

unidirectional, biaxial and random E-glass, S-glass and carbon.

• Successfully optimized various molding processes to increase parts production by 15%, thus resulting in $50,000 savings

annually for the company.

• Increased sales by 10% annually by working closely with sales, marketing and manufacturing groups.

COOK COMPOSITES AND POLYMERS (CCP), Kansas City, MO 08/01 – 03/07

CCP Composites is a world leader in the production and distribution of gel coats, composites resins and industrial cleaners .

Division of Total, world’s fourth largest oil company.

Chemist/Composites Engineer

Responsible for developing formulations using unsaturated polyester resins for use in SMC, BMC, RTM and

Open Molding Lamination Process. Worked closely with customers and manufacturing to develop new

formulations and/or modify existing formulations with newly developed unsaturated polyester resins.

Concurrently, improved and optimized molding processes to improve both quality and productivity of the molded

parts. Gained valuable experience in all aspects of quality control (QC) by checking of internal QC specifications

of production polyester batches and verifying the certificate of analysis (COA) of blended resins for customer

use.

• Increased sales and market share by 23% annually by working closely with sales, marketing and manufacturing groups to ensure

smooth product launches.

• Successfully launched several new formulations by working closely with the business and manufacturing teams, which resulted in

approximately $1.5 million in new business opportunities.

WERNER COMPANY, Greenville, PA 09/99 – 07/01

A fully integrated manufacturer and distributor of climbing equipment in the United States.

Composites Engineer

Responsible for improving both resin injection and open bath pultrusion processes in terms of processing ease

and reducing manufacturing cost. Used design of experiments (DOE) to optimize formulations in terms of roving

and mat types, and levels of pigments, fillers, lubricants and other ingredients in the formulations. Responsible

for characterization of both raw materials and fully assembled experimental ladder assembly using various

thermal analysis equipment’s like DSC and mechanical and rheological properties.

Successfully developed a process to run thicker parts using “resin injection” process that resulted in lower resin usage and

reduced emission.

Higher processing speeds and lower resin usage resulted in $250,000 annual savings.

NORTHSTAR POLYMERS, Minneapolis, MN 01/99 – 08/99

A manufacturer, formulator, and supplier of polyurethane chemicals.

Polymer Chemist

Worked with polyurethane formulations. Conducted gel time, pot life stability tests and various mechanical and

physical tests.
