Summary

Design Engineer with a unique combination of education and experience. Member of an integrated business aircraft design team. The focus has been on aircraft flight controls, with some structural design. Tasks range from preliminary layouts of all aircraft systems in advanced design to detailed design and production support.

Experience

Cessna Aircraft Company 1992 to Present

Senior Engineer ? Advanced Design

?Create overall layouts of major systems and more detailed layouts of the subsystems and their mechanisms.

?Create layouts of innovative new mechanisms when required.

?Research new and existing vendor items.

?Calculate (guessimate) loads in the system for initial sizing of components.

?Create presentations for group design reviews, gate meetings, and the final hand-off to the project design team.

Senior Engineer ? Integrated Project Group

?Develop, design, test, and certifying (with the FAA) new designs or modifications to the Citation aircraft.

?Utilize the advanced design group layouts as a starting point for the detailed design of assignments.

?Design details and assemblies including new mechanisms when required.

?These designs are made up of a plethora of parts, but the more common components are cable sectors, bell cranks, shafts, pushrods, brackets of all styles and sizes, and structure as required.

?My typical design assignment at Cessna consists of these steps (in extremely compact generalized form):

1.Receive the broad project goals and what the immediate constraints are.

2.Determine how to make the required parts.

Will it be bent-up sheet metal, machined, extrusions, or a combination of some sort?

What kind of material (aluminum, titanium, steel, composite, plastic, etc.) will I specify?

Research and call out standard parts such as MS (military), NAS (national aerospace), and Cessna standard parts.

3.Communicate with everyone in the integrated team during this time to ensure that what is being considering is possible, and cost effective.

4.After release, answer questions and handle problems that may arise during the manufacturing, installation of the parts, and flight testing of the aircraft.

Utilize a variety of computer tools, including CATIA V6, CATIA V5, CATIA V3, CATIA Kinematics, CATIA Sheet Metal, PDM, VPM, Microsoft office, PIOS, and the Internet.

Won Collier Award & Citation of Merit for the Cessna Citation X aircraft.

Additional Experience

Architectural Computer Drafter

?Drafted architectural plans using AutoCAD and hand drafting.

?Assisted in the creation of bidding and proposal packages.

?Made regular on-site inspections of hospital complexes.

Tactical Aircraft Maintenance Specialist

?Responsible for the daily operation of the aircraft.

?Worked on the Cessna OT-37B, Rockwell OV-10A, Lockheed F-16A, F-16B, F-16C, and the F-16D aircraft.

?Held a secret clearance until honorably discharged.

Education

Friends University Wichita, KS

?BS in Computer Information Systems

ITT Technical Institute Salt Lake City, UT

?AAS in Computer-Aided Design & Drafting

Cessna Aircraft Wichita, KS

?Six Sigma Green Belt trained

?Over 115 hours of Career Enhancement training

?Over 35 hours of TQM training

?Over 215 hours of Job Skill Enhancement classes
