Background: A community based agency that is the leader in addressing poverty and improv ing the quality of life
of residents in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. Programs include energy assistance, housing counseling for first
time homebuyers, foreclosure prevention, Head Start, Early Head Start, extended child care, youth counseling,
work experience, and community education.
Managed a multi-million dollar agency;

Background: A Trust that strengthens families and protects children from abuse and neglect through funding loca l
prevention efforts, public education, and parent support. The Trust is the lead agency of the DC Kids Count
Collaborative, Partners in Prevention, and is Parents Anonymous® of Washington, DC.
Provided training and education on the prevention of child abuse and neglect, diversity, and strong
families;
Wrote a book for parents on the child abuse and neglect laws in the District of Columbia . Book became a
training tool for child welfare professionals ;
Published an annual statistical report (KIDS COUNT) on the status of children in the District of Columbia;
Developed annual public education campaigns for Family Strengthening Month (April) and Pa rent
Leadership Month (February) ;
Established a local Parents Anonymous certified organization ;
Developed a parent leadership institute;

THE FAMILY CRISIS CENTER, INC. OF PRINCE GEORGES COUNTY, Brentwood, MD 1990 to 2000
Executive Director
Background: Domestic violence social service agency serving families residing in Prince George’s County through
crisis intervention, emergency shelter for victims, non-residential counseling services, advocacy, and public
engagement.
Served as a member of the Maryland Network Against Domestic Violence (MNADV) Board of Directors for
a period of ten years and as President for three years during a period of highly -engaged advocacy and
grass-roots work;
Established a MNADV Diversity Committee for MNADV and served as its first chair ;
Advocated for the passage of laws to increase protection for victims of domestic violence;
Developed and implemented culturally appropriate counseling and educational models to serve African
American and Latina victims of domestic violence;
Provided educational groups for men who batter their significant others;
Updated and administered a Science of Living curriculum for a life skills program for the prevention of
domestic violence;
Developed and implemented a children’s program with residential and non -residential components;
Provided training on domestic violence and cultural diversity across Maryland.
AMERICAN PUBLIC HEALTH ASSOCIATION, Washington, DC 1987 to 1990
Coordinator, Section/Affiliate Operations
Background: APHA is the largest association for Public Health professionals in the world which is dedicated to
protecting all Americans from serious health threats through community -based health services.
Served as staff liaison to the leadership of the Association’s 23 organizational units which represented the
different professions in public health (medical doctors, nurses, social workers, lawyers, etc.);
Worked closely with the affiliate health associations in each of the 50 states to ensure timely sharing of
information, collection of data, and field reports that helped t o influence national policy;
Planned and provided annual training for chairs of the 23 organizational units and each of the 50 state
affiliate presidents;
managed affiliate and unit budgets and administered a challenge grant program;
Actively participated in the Metropolitan Washington Public Health Association as president and a
governing councilor in the development of national public policy statements and resolutions .

Background: National health organization serving persons with epilepsy through 125 state and local affiliates
across the United States.
Traveled approximately 30% of the time to local affiliate boards to provide technical assista nce to boards
of directors and senior level staff;
Participated in the development of 102 local standards of excellence;
Wrote sample policies and procedures for affiliates ;
Worked closely with local affiliates in order to implement all 102 minimum standards;
Provided individual technical assistance for executive directors of State affiliates ;

Executive Director
Background: Private school educating pre-school children to adults. The school had both residential and non-
residential components and focused on developing indigenous leaders among a low-income disenfranchised
population in a riot-torn area of Newark.
Developed the curriculum for the early learning ce nter, the primary school, the after school program, and
the summer camp;
Developed and administered a Science of Living curriculum for a life skills program for youth ages 6 – 14;
Administered all programs at the School including programs for children and youth, a high school
equivalency program for high school dropouts, an adult basic education program, lifelong learning
program for adults, and a residential education program for youth who had been diagnosed as
emotionally disturbed or socially maladjusted;
Developed and administered an adult basic education program as a pre-high school equivalency program
for adults who read on a low -level (5th grade);
Provided diversity training for corporate executives at Bell Laboratories ;
Created and sponsored an annual Marcus Garvey Festival.
NEW HAVEN BOARD OF EDUCATION, New Haven, CT 1968 to 1972
