My name is Mar tin Desouza and I am applying for a position with Avalanche as an event

marketing representative or other marketing-related position. I am a 22 year old student currently in my

t hird year at the University of Ottawa pursuing a Bachelor of Commerce degree specializing in marketing.

I would appreciate to be given the opportunity to sit down for an interview to fur ther represent myself

and the specific set of skills, which I would bring to the position.

Over the course of my life, I have had the blessing to have been influenced and guided by several

significant and inspiring coaches, teachers, mentors, and leaders alike. These leaders have had an

astounding impact on my life, and have molded me into the person I am today. I believe that leadership is

one of the most important concepts in human development, and is a concept that I t ruly value. As I pursue

t he various experiences, education, and jobs that makeup my career, I am driven by the desire to further

develop my leadership skills so to move forward in educating and in fluencing the younger generations of

t he future.

As a result of several years of customer service experience, combined with a childhood of high-level

competitive sports, I have acquired several skills that I believe will not only satisfy the skill requirements

necessary to work for Avalanche, but I feel these skills will allow me to have a profound impact on the

company as well as the clients which the company serves. My skill set is centered around leadership as it

relates to all facets of teamwork and team building. From a leadership standpoint, I differentiate myself

v ia my ability to understand the needs of others, in a given situation, in order to then take action, make

decisions, and efficiently solve problems. Leadership for me does not only refer to managing a group of

people but it refers to the idea of bringing honesty, integrity, and dedication to all applications of your life,

so to set an example for those around you and inspire positivity, camaraderie, and efficiency.

With regards to the specific skills, which I believe would drive my success, my communication

skills would definitely take center stage. Being a social, extroverted person, naturally, I am not shy to

speak and address large groups of people. I have acquired a wonderful ability to articulate my thoughts,

w hich has allowed me to be very good at teaching and explaining concepts to my friends, co-workers, and

teachers. I enjoy opportunities to present in front of an audience and feel that my outgoing, gregarious,

and relaxed personality gives me an amazing ability to connect with an audience and have my message

register.

Through fur ther experience in the retail and hospitality industries, I have also acquired hands on

experience that would definitely t ranslate both directly and indirectly to the duties performed with

Avalanche. This vital work experience has instilled in me proactive, customer-focused habits . I am a social

person and dealing with people is what I do best. I feel that these invaluable customer service skills are

f undamental for anyone pursuing a career in business.

I believe that my knowledge, abilities, and intangible skills separate me from my peers and can

definitely benefit the Avalanche. Not only do I bring forth several, previously acquired skills from past

work experience, but I am driven by a will to constantly improve myself and those around me. By bringing

energy, leadership, and integrity to all applications in my life, I am confident that positivity and success
