Candidate genes to design LAMP primers were identified with the aid of the published
MSc. Project sequenced data. Then primers were tested in PCR on a broad range of phytoplasma
-Improvement of infected plant DNA samples with the use of validated controls. Primers that can amplify
diagnostics for the phytoplasma DNA, in particular the 16sr(XI) and XIV groups were identified. Finally
phytoplasmas of the primers for the LAMP assays based on the newly acquired sequences tested alongside
grasses and coconut current primers to identify primers which will provide more rapid and specific diagnostic
assay.
2009- 2011 BSc (Hons) Plant Biotechnology
University of Result: Second Class lower Honours.

BSc project - Formation of tissue culture protocol for Hylocereus Costaricensis (Dragon
fruit) which is a cactus species. Cactus is a slow growing species and by applying suitable
conditions generation of explants in in vitro was performed. Excellent tissue culture was
developed with aseptic techniques.
