Cover Letter
I have always been fascinated by the complexity of biology. My interest in biology and
technology persuaded me to choose clinical laboratory science as my field of bachelors. By
opting clinical laboratory technology, I became an expert in multidisciplinary labs and I also got
knowledge about the concept of quality control in a laboratory.
In M.Sc Medical Technology, my major was Molecular Biology and Cytogenetics. So I got
understanding of molecular biology and experienced the techniques of c onventional
cytogenetics. My thesis in the master was a research entitled "Phenotype and Genotype
Characterization of Eunuchs in Lahore".
After M.Sc, I contributed in a research project about circadian rhythm entitled “Expression of
Circadian Clock and Cell Cycle Genes in Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia” at the Molecular
Biology Lab, University of Health Sciences Lahore, Pakistan. In those six months of extensive
research, I performed more than sixteen hundred Real Time Polymerase Chain Reactions. I
faced repeated calibration issues and performed quality control protocols there. This research
gave me expertise in basic molecular techniques such as DNA extraction, RNA isolation,
electrophoresis etc.
In addition, I worked as Laboratory Technologist/ Manager for the Advance Diagnostic and
Research Laboratory, University of Gujrat, Pakistan. The hospital associated with the laboratory
was serving thousands of patients with different genetic and infectious diseases. So I gained
experience with molecular-level analysis of diseases.
Currently I have almost completed MS Science and Bioengineering (Biotechnology as major
and Computational System Biology as minor studies) from Tampere University of Technology,
Finland. Presently I am writing the thesis manuscript which will hopefully end by couple of days.
My thesis was related to the fluorescent KillerRed protein and in the research, a manipulated
KillerRed protein was tested for its degradation abilities upon excitation . From my research
thesis, I also got introduced with molecular cloning. I know how to insert a DNA into an
expression vector and later transform competent cells to produce protein of interest. I also
know how to engineer (design) and produce phages. Moreover I have learned modern
biotechnology and I have expertise in the finest molecular techniques.
My masters in Finland have really given me enough confidence to work independently in a
research lab. I have practical experience in experiment planning, experiments execution (under
strict controls) and critical analysis of the results. I would like to widen and deepen my
knowledge and experience of the field by joining your team and I hope that you will provide me
an opportunity.
