Education
B.S., Accountancy, California State University, Sacramento,
CA
A.A, General Science, American River College, Sacramento, CA
Relevant Experience & Accomplishments
Provide internal financial reporting to Operations of Key
Results (productivity, costs per unit, straight to overtime
percentages, volumes, rates, energy usage, yields) to
identify and drive performance.
Interviewed the operations managers to evaluate what data
they required to manage their departments effectively. I
developed measures around their feedback, collecting
historical data for a baseline, and gathering current
performance data. I conducted training sessions with the
managers and plant to educate them on the purpose of each
measure and how they can influence the plant's operational
and financial performance.
Provide Financial Leadership to all levels of management; by
providing analysis with concrete data in support of
decisions.
Participate in cross functional plant decision making teams
to bring a financial outlook (cost/benefit, financial impact)
to the discussion.
Present cost reports during weekly staff meeting to provide
management with a snapshot during the month and to generate
discussion centered on their departmental performance.
Compile monthly operating results and review with Plant and
Corporate Management to identify successes and challenges
affecting plant performance.
Supervise and develop an Accounting department with a staff
of four; consisting of Accounts Payable, Payroll, Financial
and Materials Accounting. I have developed the group by
empowering each individual and providing challenging project
work. They are each encouraged to participate in committees
outside of Accounting for further growth and an understanding
of other departments and how their job responsibilities
handshake. Each is required to establish annual goals,
inside and outside of Accounting which are utilized as part
of their performance evaluations.
Responsible for the preparation of the annual budgets:
Operating, Capital, Raw Materials and Packaging. Capital
Budgeting is a joint project between Accounting and
Engineering with idea submission from all plant groups. The
Operating budget is zero based driven by volumes and
productivity. Interviews are conducted with each
manager/group leader to discuss the current year's
performance and assumptions going forward to build into their
budgets.
Establish, document and maintain internal controls;
documented Auditing Process Narratives and Matrixes for
external audit use.
Establish and maintain adequate Property Accounting records
and procedures.
Provide Monthly forecasting based on revised volumes, annual
trends and business conditions.
Develop new product costing to evaluate the value of
executing new products.
Coordinate and monitor monthly and fiscal year-end closes
ensuring correct procedures are followed and deadlines meet.
Evaluate production variances toward improvement; which has
resulted in a reduction of raw material net variance losses
from a historical average of 1.37% down to an average of
0.50%.
Evaluate work order usage and variances of raw materials and
packaging to ensure costs are correctly captured to COGM
(cost of goods manufactured).
Monitor raw material, packaging and finished product
inventories.
I negotiated contracts with national and international
vendors for two of our top three materials; reducing
envelopes by 20% and sourcing a secondary vendor for picture
frames dropping the lead time from six months to four weeks.
Plant Project Manager on Integration of new computer system
(JDE). I evaluated each employee's job functions, determined
which program modules they would require for their job
responsibilities, coordinated out of plant training while
covering plant day-to-day tasks, participated in cross module
testing and go-live validation of data transfer and system
transactions.
Developed and conducted an in-depth presentation on Cost
Accounting to the Ralcorp and Post plant and divisional
controllers. Provided continual support by marrying our
employees with our Post sister plant for training and
support.
Conduct a monthly "Finance for Non-Finance Managers" training
session, providing both additional learning's and driving
discussion in a non-threatening environment.
Coordinated and facilitated a cross-divisional group of
Materials Accounting to develop "Best Practices"
Wrote Step by Step Training Manuals for Inventory Procedures,
Materials month-end close process and financial month-end
close process to document approved procedures and use as a
training tool.
Created "at-a-glance" reporting to communicate daily
production measures which have created company wide
awareness, driving down overtime and temporary labors.
Present Plant Financial performance at plant wide mass
meetings regularly, highlighting areas of strength and
pinpointing area for improvement and how each employee can
affect the plant's overall performance.
