Experience
Teacher at Hebrew Academy of Cleveland
January 2006 - Present (8 years 3 months)
I have been teaching second grade girls at the Hebrew Academy for the last five years. As part of my duties,
I teach the students language arts and math. In addition to my teaching responsibilities, I initiated a recycling
program with one of the parents at school. It has been highly successful. Each classroom has a recycling box
located in the room. I also began student council with the sixth grade girls, which was new to the school.
The students raised money through a variety of ways: Chinese auctions, a canteen where candy, popcorn and
fruit drinks were sold, and raffle tickets. A portion of the money was used to buy indoor recess games and
other needed items for the school. The remainder of the money was used to leave a legacy from the out-going
sixth grade class.
Teacher at The Lillian and Betty Ratner School
January 2001 - January 2006 (5 years 1 month)
I was in a multi-age first and second grade classroom. Many of our children came from our preschool and
kindergarten, which were Montessori. The day school was Montessori influenced but the teachers were not
Montessori trained. The curriculum was integrated into our classroom. In addition to my regular classroom
duties, I started cooking classes after school. I also worked on changing our lunchroom menu so that the food
was more nutritious.
Teacher at Mandel Jewish Community Center
January 1997 - January 2001 (4 years 1 month)
I worked at the Jewish Community Center for four years. During my first year, I taught in a two-year-old
classroom. It was very challenging. Two year old children are on the threshold of independency from their
mothers. They are beginning to explore their surroundings and learning to take changes. Unfortunately, the
children at this age have not learned to play cooperatively and it made for interesting days. The curriculum
was very low-key and extremely hands on, due to the age of the children in the class. Goals for children at
this age must be realistic. Successes come slowly. In our classroom we worked at having the children feel
good about separating from their parents and spending several hours away from their safe home environment.
My next three years were spent in a classroom where the children were four and five years old. The focus of
the classroom was twofold: first to provide the four year old children with additional readiness skills and
second, to prepare the five year old children with the appropriate skills for kindergarten. The room was
divided into centers. Each center concentrated on specific skills. Working with four and five year olds was a
very rewarding experience. It was exciting to watch the children grow and learn new skills.
