Position: Infection Control Officer.

> September 2011 till November 2013:

King Hussein Cancer Center: is the only specialized cancer center in the

Middle East treating both adult and pediatric patients. It has a capacity

of 148 beds and currently treats more than 3500 new patients per year. The

aim of the KHCC Infection Control Program is dissemination of information,

surveillance activities, investigation, prevention and control of

nosocomial infections in the hospital.

Responsibilities

Plans, develops, directs, implements and evaluates infection prevention

within a hospital or health care facility. This position is supervised by

the director of nursing and serves to instruct personnel in proper

infection control procedure. The infection control practitioner

investigates infection control problems and arranges follow-up care for

patients exposed to infectious diseases.

Duties

Conducts rounds, discussing and monitoring infection control practices with

staff; collects infection data from departments, maintaining records for

each case; trains staff on implementation of infection control practices;

investigates incidents of infection and reports such incidents to the

director of nursing; and ensures availability of supplies required for

infection control.

has established programs that focus on all stages of comprehensive cancer

care: from prevention and early detection, through diagnosis and treatment,

to palliative care.

Duties

> Preparing patients prior to the surgery: This include the below

duties:

. Giving pre-surgery medication to the patient.

. Taking written consent of the patient and the guardian for undertaking

the surgery.

. Doing the required blood and other tests prior to the surgery.

. Taking note of any allergies patient might have and informing the

surgeon about the same.

. Solving any queries patient or his family might have regarding the

surgery.

. Ensure patient has fasted before the surgery.

. Ensuring proper clothing is worn by the patient for the surgery.

. Duties of the nurse during the surgery include:

. Taking the patient to the surgical ward.

. Assisting the surgeon with his surgical clothing.

. Ensuring all the surgical tools and equipment's are clean and

sterilized.

. Assisting the surgeon as per his instructions.

> Post-surgery: This include the below duties:

. Dispose any waste generated during the surgery in an appropriate way.

. Closely observe the patient for any side effects.

. Give proper diet and medication as per surgeon's directive.

. Administer intravenous fluids to the patient.

. Change wound dressing from time to time.

. Assist the patient in eating and personal hygiene in case he is not

able to move.

. Record all the details of the patient and his progress post-surgery in

a proper documented form.

. Help in discharge from hospital.

Skill

. Have good people management and communication skills with knowledge of

English.

. Hard working and detailed oriented individuals who are willing to put

an extra effort.

. Have a caring, calm and compassionate attitude. Should be able to deal
