Background

Summary

I have prepared myself with a solid education, experienced a host of multicultural environments, led a diverse group of

paid and volunteer staff, developed and implemented creative program solutions, calmed stormy seas of discontent and

conflict, managed traumatic and critical incidents, taught leadership and mentored many a fine soul. I can step into any

situation and help make it better, perform greater or dig deeper and find what it needs to thrive. I am eccentric in nature

and free in spirit and I deliver great outcomes. I have a passion for living and I believe leadership is about influence by

design and example. My education has taught me what any good education should and that is I know how to learn. I

can learn, adapt, and make things happen. Specialties: My specialities are working with people in crisis and critical

situations or in situations that have become stuck, stale or boring. I help humans help each other with the gifts and

graces they already have at their disposal to facilitate successful outcomes for growth. By being well versed in the

ancients coupled with post-modern, evidence-based skills, and a postive-psychology approach I bring to the table skills

and gifts not matched by single careers persons. My passion to see organizations and people thrive is contagious and I

promote a spiritual, emotional, psychological and relational wellness which is attractive and readily embraced by

people and groups. I have been blessed to be a part of helping every church I have served grow in numbers, program,

disciples, financial stability, spiritual and emotional health. I am a gifted a leader, preacher/teacher and I love Christ

and His church. I am a peacemaker and strive to bring a non-anxious presence to where I am called to serve. I model

and live a life of service. The best way to care for oneself is to care for everyone!

Experience

Senior Minister

Bethany Union Church

October 2013 – Present (6 months)Chicago, ILL

Called to serve as the Settled Pastor of Bethany Union Church beginning Oct. 1, 2013. Bethany Union is an

Interdenominational Community Church founded in 1872 by 14 persons of 7 different denominations. After the great

fire of Chicago when some of the population moved further out from downtown the only Protestant Church in the

Beverly area of Chicago was a German Lutheran Church and all of its services were in German. So 14 souls of various

denominations covenanted together to begin a place of worship in English that would make denominational ties

secondary to the worship of God and the service to humankind and founded Bethany Union. The people of BUC

continue to be a strong and positive presence with the best yet to come.

Education

Abilene Christian University

Graduate Course in Mediation and Conflict Management, Conflict Resolution and Restoration

2013 – 2013

Trinity College of the Bible and Trinity Theological Seminary

D.R.S., Theological Anthropology

1997 – 2002

The dissertation written as the final course work for this degree explored the historic, developmental theology

concerning the doctrine of Man. A Judiac-Christian emphasis explored the writings of the ancients, biblical exegesis

and historical dialog as the Doctrine of Man was created and changed over the history of the Western and Eastern

Church. It concludes that the present popular doctrines of what a human being is, has morphed, adapted and adopted

over the years and now includes more of Greek philosopy concepts then it does historic Biblical teachings. The

conclusion is drawn from a Biblical Theology viewpoint and states that a human being is a single, unified material

being with a spiritual awareness. In a nutshell; We don't have souls. We are souls.

Ashland University

Doctor of Ministry, Pastoral Care and Counseling

1989 – 1991

My degree took me through the present day schools of practice in the field of Mental Health Counseling and Pastoral

Care. Schools of thought in the Cognitive sceinces and behavioral management were utilized to draw a clear line of

connection between them and the Biblical insights which are employed in a synthesis of an approach entitled,

"Paradigm Therapy." This therapy was utilized for evidence based application with juvenile populations. The work

completed with this degree afforded me the opportunity to apply for and obtain a full license in the State of Michigan

as a Professional Counselor.

Methodist Theological School in Ohio

Masters of Divinity, Pastoral

1981 – 1985

This four year Masters degree covered a multitude of disciplines to inlcude Pastoral Care, Preaching, Teaching, Bible,

Church History, Administration, Ethics and Theology. During this degree time I recieved a grant to study abroad and

spent several months in Europe and the Middle East documenting, filming and studying the great historical sites of

Christendom. While in the Middle East I spent the majority of my time in Israel and took a position at the Kibbutz

Ramat Rachel were I studied with an international group of students.

Albion College

B.A., Religious Studies

1979 – 1981

Albion College provided me with a solid Liberal Arts education that included a variety of subjects. My major was in

Religious Studies and it was seasoned with classes in English, Psychology, Biology, Physical Eduction, Political

Science, Sociology, Art History and various other electives for my core.

Activities and Societies: Member of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity and competed with the track team.
