Providence Healthcare Network Waco, Texas
Director of Emergency Services 2003-2013
Direct oversight of a 51 bed, state of the art Emergency Service Department, to include Acute and
Urgent Care areas, and psychiatric beds with an annual patient census of 83,000 visits
Coordinated with Medical Director to provide overflow areas of care in times of higher than
normal patient census
Oversight of personnel management functions within department. Responsibilities included the
hiring, counseling, and monitoring of staff activities to include 98.7 FTE’s consisting of multi-
level positions: seven direct management reports, RN, LVN and ED coding staff, communication
techs, unit clerks, environmental and supply techs
Accountable for departmental design, construction and renovations for Emergency Services and
Urgent Care while maintaining daily operations for patient care.
Maintained regular and ongoing contact with physicians who routinely practice within the
department and with ED physicians, making process changes as necessary
Weekly review of patient satisfaction tool. Analyze, trend responses, and utilizes data to make
improvements in processes and services where indicated
Worked with accounting department to provide financial counseling for those in need, resulting in
increased revenue
Prepared budget and ensured compliance with allocated funding. Coordinated and directed
internal/external audits
Development and successful implementation of new service lines; Chest Pain Center with Chest
Pain Center Accreditation from the Society of Chest Pain and a Stroke center with Primary Stroke
Certification from the Joint Commission
Responsible for the process and design of successful roll out of an EMR, CPOE and barcode
administration of medication
Ensure staff compliance with core measure and all regulatory agency requirements
Development of departmental goals, plans and standards consistent with the clinical,

Responsible for maintaining staff competencies for all emergency department employees to
include clinical and non-clinical staff
Assist with the planning, writing, and teaching of CEU's for clinical staff

nurses as well as conducting triage and charge nurse classes
