#1. Project Name :Zno coated on Al electrode as a LPG

sensor

Team size 4 member

Organization I.T.E.R

Duration Nov 2012-April 2013

Project Description

In this project work, Our Aim is to fabricate, validate and study the

gas (LPG) sensor using ZnO coated on Al electrode as the gas sensing

element. This Electrode is fit into the glass instrument which can be

operated at a high degree temperature. We can measure the resistance at

different temperature with the gas environment. It is well known that LPG

consists of CH4, C3H8, C4H10, etc., and in these molecules the reducing

hydrogen species are bound to carbon atoms. Therefore, LPG dissociates less

easily into reactive reducing components on the zinc oxide surface. The

sensor with ZnO was exposed to varying concentrations of LPG. The sensors

were operated over a wide range of operating temperatures (100OC-200OC)

leading to different thermal energies for the surface reactions. Variations

in gas sensitivity with temperature were observed.

The traditional experimental set up designed with the prepared ZnO

coated Al wire acted as electrode for sensor and it was compared with the

same simulation environment. For simulation we use COMSOL multi physics

software. COMSOL Multiphysics 4.3 is a versatile tool and is used to design

and solve the transducer device with 3D partial differential equations. The

results from simulated data are summarized, relating the concept and

mechanism behind gas sensors. .
