This staffing agency has had me work with different groups of Disabled and Mental Health patients at different physical locations-such as the Gilmore Center and Mcintosh Trail shown below.

Presently I am working with Mcintosh Trail in Barnesville with the Mental Health Transition program(Otions).

Responsibilities-Help individuals work and achieve Individual Service Goals(Plans) and familiarize rhem with their local community. Also involved engaging in retail purchase, local services, basic shopping and financial activities at banks.

In addition prpritary software used for each individuals performance and activities inputted according to State of Georgia requirements.

Gilmore Center had a reduction in staff and cutbacks. One of the senior members who had been there for 8 years was let go as well.

Description-

Responsibility to have disabled physical and mentally handicapped individuals meet or exceed Individual Service Plans for 1 year time periods.

Required occasional lifting handicapped individuals, feeding, bathing, taking them out in the community, working on range of motion skills, computer skills, hands on training in drawing, basketball, hands on training hand eye coordination skills, rest room help and physical walking goals.

My Job-

In addition to the above we worked on THERAP software entering info on each individual we worked on for that day and then a weekly summary. Some of this was state required and also Gilmore required. My job included CPI training which included practical self defense for staff and non-violent intervention with population we were dealing with when they tried to get physically violent.

We also had 15 hours training for First Aid, and health care issues (given by a certified practicing nurse), individual rights training, state and federal requirements for safety and protection for our special population.

I also had training in homes for 3-4 of the adult population as a house parent . This included medication giving and related paper work for 12 hour shifts.

Accomplishments-

I was able to help most of my 20 assigned individual assigned to me to reach most or some of their personal goals during the week in a work time of 6 hours a day. This included physical goals, range of motion, focusing,computer, road sign identification and drawing .

One of the goals I achieved was to get an adult male who had a 3-4 ear old mentality to focus on using the handles of a table top soccer game. This individual over 7 weeks went from disinterest to actually hitting the soccer ball into the goal hole by himself. Staff did place the ball for positioning. This individual now comes daily to soccer table to play and is rewarded with clapping, praise and a pat on the shoulder for each soccer goal attained.

Hard Skills Learned-

I learned Therap software that was made especially for this type of population I worked with. This included daily goals, weekly reports and monthly goals. Many of the Individual Service Plans(ISP) had specific areas that were addressed. Areas such as health issues and mental health issues, medication, conflict and remediaton resolution w others and self.

I learned the bus route for the houses as they had clients that needed to be picked up daily and brought to the center
