1966-1973 The Mystiks Mumbai
Musician / Band Manager
It took a little experimenting at parties to notice that music seemed to be ingrained in me, running through my veins. I have a natural flair for showmanship. An impromptu display of my ability to hold a crowd appeared as an opportunity when a Compere failed to turn up at a public performance. I found myself under a spotlight and enjoying it. I managed a pop group thereafter, training them to win the hearts of young and old of yester-years. However, the group didn’t seem complete without me in it. I volunteered as a percussionist and singer and enjoyed the accolades thereafter. The ball got rolling – “The Mystiks, LIVE in concert”, was a common feature that was looked forward to by the residents and visitors to “The Astoria Hotel, Bombay”. The luxurious “Taj Mahal Hotel, Bombay” then invited us to perform for their elite crowd. Being frequented by celebrities, we were spotted by a talent scout who immediately signed us in contract to perform in various cities in India and Nepal, Delhi being the hot seat. Celebrated personalities like Biddu, and Bashir Sheikh would still vouch for my mesmerizing performances. As fame grew, we ventured into films including the Merchant-Ivory production “The Guru” of 1967. Although not on any pop charts, we appeared in almost all leading newspapers in India and performed on All India Radio. I sit back in nostalgia imagining what we could have reached if music was as it is today in India!
