Key activities are:
Interaction with the vessel to achieve safe voyages. This was achieved through effective communication (for example - Regular phone calls to vessel, Fast response to their email’s, queries, helping them work with the IMS documentation).
Preparation of vessel for external and internal audits on board with regards to vessel certification for certificates SMC - ISSC - MLC - ISO. This was achieved through close liaison with ship staff for the date planned, scope of the audit. Assist ship staff with regards to checklist, advice and guidance.
Carry out internal audit on board assigned ships to detect and prevent deficiencies which can result to an
incident or an accident, testing internal control, and monitoring compliance with Company’s policy and safety procedures.
Reduction in the number of port state control deficiencies -Vessel's under my charge have achieved a KPI figure of 0.478 (23 inspections - 11 deficiencies noted). This was achieved by continuous support, feedback and encouragement to the ship’s staff to eliminate the identified defects and feedback received from other ships and their PSC inspection reports.
Reduction in lost time Injury frequency- Strive and aim with all effort to improve the safety culture on board. Special focus being paid to the safety awareness and consciousness of ship staff and the
goal is to eliminate or reduce any personnel workspace injury.
Analysis of injury reports to determine causal factor and appropriate preventive action.
Near Miss management - Ensure that vessel staff play an active role in detecting and reporting of situations which could lead to an incident or accident. Vessel's staff were encouraged to identify, report and send in their near miss incidents. By identifying near misses, helped to prevent any potential hazards that can happen to the ship staff or the equipment
