As a float pool RN, I am responsible for a 6-8 patient assignment to assess daily needs of the patient, administer medications, transcribing doctors’ orders, coordinate patient care among the various disciplines, assisting physicians with bedside procedures, responding to problems brought forth by the Licensed Practical Nurse, and intervening in emergency situations. One LPN is responsible for the daily hygiene, treatments and vitals of these patients.
The expectation for the float RN is to be flexible and adaptable so they can be assigned to replace for sick calls, assist in areas that have increased workload or acutely ill patients at the last minute.
