Technical Writing / Editing

While I was writing my books, the Internet exploded and changed the playing field for writers. Though I’m not up to speed on the latest software, especially B2B applications which have become increasingly sophisticated in part due to Facebook and Google, my skills and experience as a writer and communicator can be readily applied to it.

Marketing and Public Relations

Public Relations Director, Luzerne Music Center, Lake Luzerne, NY 1992 / 1996-2000

This music education camp and chamber music series is affiliated with the Philadelphia Orchestra; highlights included promotion of visit by renowned film composer, Michael Kamen, and performances by the Ahn Trio

Coordinated Media Relations, cultivating writers / reviewers, supplying them press kits; did live interviews on WAMC, Albany NPR affiliate; WMHT, local classical station; and local cable TV and AM-radio.

Created and produced weekly broadcast of our chamber music concerts in association with WBKK-FM, a classical music station in Schenectady, that ran for two years

Wrote weekly release and others as needed, supplying to all electronic and print media in Capital Region; took photos for distribution to press; created press kits for media

Made decisions on print & electronic advertising, organizing the budget, and creating the ads and copy

Planned and originated events like the annual Senior Citizen bus trip for dinner and a concert at the LMC

Wrote and created music programs for Chamber Music Series; created banners, flyers, brochures

TOEFL iBT (non-native speaker) writing exam

Evaluate essays for the TOEFL program, which is a test for English proficiency taken by non-native speakers for entrance into English-speaking colleges and universities, or employment with English-speaking corporations.

Raters use a sophisticated and standardized scoring guide, which they must closely adhere to, in making their assessments.
