Master Artisan Sheet Metal Work

Key responsibilities included:

Manufacture new cabs and other components according to drawings for GM / GE locomotives locally and abroad

Cut, bend, roll, punch, sheet plate 1mm up to 8mm mild steel, 3CR12, Aluminium

Put the main structure together using tack weld

Check continuously for squareness and straightness

Fit all cladding to structure and mig weld using scattering intermittent welding to ensure heat distribution to prevent deformation distortion

Finnish off welding using grinder rough and then pad grinding to a smooth finish

Send finished product to paint shop for primer

Receive painted products and put together all cabs using nuts and bolts

Completed structure can now be fittet to locomotive frame using 2 overhead cranes to balance out the 20+meter structure

Fasten structure to locomotive frame, fit doors, hatches, and, loose components

Completed locomotive send for final painting

Windows and other component can then be fitted and inspected by QC faults to be rectified and signed off

Repair heavy damaged locomotives by means of heating and power hydraulic jacks for straightness/ squareness

Cut out deformed sections using plasma and or cutting torch

Repair or manufacture new sections

Special duties set up cnc machines, make jigs, templates for steel pipe production and all other production products

Repair/ Renew large Locomotive diesel tanks

Do all piping steel and copper on locomotives

Artisan Sheet Metal Work

Key responsibilities included:

Refurbish cabs and other components cut out replace rusted sections and damaged parts

Cut, bend, roll, punch, sheet plate 1mm up to 8mm mild steel, 3CR12, Aluminium plate

Manufacture boiler plates old steam locomotives

Repair make new copper pipes on steam locomotives

Cut various pipes, debur, heat and bend on jig production for wagon build

Large diameter pipes to be filled with sand before bending shaping

Make hinges, and various other components using flywheel press

Repair damaged fan shroud using fibreglass

Develop various sheet metal patterns cones, square to round, t-piece, H-vac ductwork

Maintenance work in foundry ovens

Plumbing work on rail cars
