+ PROJECTS

Capstone Project: Built a platform to connect freelance workers with clients using ASP.NET MVC 5 and Entity Framework. This was the final project for our class, a business-focused, original application. I wanted to show off my knowledge of ASP.NET in a way that was enjoyable to build and be something that could be reasonably useful in a real-world application. The application uses SQL databasing and user account authentication, making it a practical exercise both in the creation but also in the real-world use of the app.

ASP.NET: Handled webpages and user intefaces

C#: Handled controllers for individiual pieces of the app

SQL: Handled databasing for users and their data

Git: Pushed and pulled from repository as updates were made

Integration Project: Worked in a group setting to build an ASP.NET application to keep track of a school's attendance by class and student. Final group project, taught us to build something from scratch using ASP.NET. I had done one other ASP.NET project up to this point, but working with it in a group setting really solidified all the knowledge I had. It was nice to bounce ideas off other people and get help from them in the areas I wasn't as strong in, and vice versa. I learned a bit about API integration here.

API Integration: Used the Slack API to send messages about the application to end users

ASP.NET: Handled webpages and user intefaces

C#: Handled controllers for individiual pieces of the app

SQL: Handled databasing for users and their data

Git: Pushed and pulled from repository as updates were made

Humane Society: Built an application for a theoretical humane society that stores and displays data about animals in a database. Another group project, this one taught us how to use LINQ. We were given starter code and had to sort of “fill in” all the functions by writing the queries that took place when each function was called. Very helpful to gain a more complete understanding of databases and how information can be accessed and retrieved. At first, working with a relatively large database that I didn't create was intimidating, but after writing a few queries I began to understand it a lot better. In the end, writing the queries became very fun.

C#: Provided base code for the project and all functions

LINQ: Used to write all database queries and edits

Chat Room: Built a TCP chat room application. Another one-on-one group project helped me to work with both an existing code base and another person. Collaboration can be difficult if partners don't initially see eye to eye, but that hurdle can be overcome if humility is shown and the focus remains on creating a great product.

C#: Created all classes and functions for messages, clients and servers

Rock Paper Scissors: Wrote code for a rock, paper, scissors game in C#. This was my introduction to C# and as such was a pretty simple project. I learned about the possibilities for generic types in the feedback I got from this project. A bit of what I did wasn't bad given my knowledge at the time, but I learned how to think about programming more cleanly.

C#: Created all classes and functions

Most Wanted: Created a JavaScript application to search through a set of data. This was a group project and thus a doubly effective learning experience, as we had to split the workload and rely on each other, while simultaneously improving our skills. A good look into adding pieces to a patially existing code base.

JavaScript: Created all functions

Dice Game: Created a "dice" based game in JavaScript. Learned the basics of javascript in this project. Was a good introduction to functional progamming, and coding in general.

JavaScript: Created all functions
