Work Experience:

March 2015 – Present Registered Nurse, Progressive Care Unit, Florida Hospital Orlando Orlando, FL

The Progressive Care Unit cares for patients who require a higher level of acuity than patients in the medical telemetry or medical surgical units. These patients require a high level of skilled nursing care and surveillance, however are more stable than ICU patients. Includes general care with focus on hepatology.

Provides exceptional bedside patient care which includes performing assessments, determining diagnoses, and implementing individualized care plans in accordance with Florida Hospital standards of care. Prioritizes and completes follow up assessments and evaluates and modifies care plans as necessary. This requires the ability to assess and interpret diagnostic data relative to patient age and condition, including, but not limited to, lab results, non-invasive monitoring data, and interdisciplinary team notes.

Monitors and asses airway management, pain management, bodily temperature, blood pressure, pulse, respiration rates, and postoperative dressings and drains. Administers injections, medications, blood transfusions, and intravenous therapy.

Uses the medical record software program (Cerner) to analyze patient files which includes reviewing patient records, charting, physician orders and notes, medications, etc. Documents all procedures and assessments within established timeframes for use by all staff in the same system.

Provides comprehensive verbal and written communication of patient statuses to oncoming shift nurses.

Consults with unit nurses, physicians, families, therapists and other pertinent personnel regarding patient health, home readiness, and expectations as part of ongoing recovery.

Educate patients and families on life-style modifications (diet, exercise, etc.), medications, medical procedures, and other pertinent information which may include prevention of future illness, maintenance of chronic conditions, available outpatient services and resources, etc.

Preceptor for current nursing students and graduate nurses. Responsibilities include teaching and mentoring students/nurses on best practices, enhancing assessment skills, applying theoretical knowledge in clinical settings, and providing feedback on performance.
