The Alternative Reading Week Winnipeg program is a series of workshops that uses an experiential approach to leadership development, analyses social issues, build core skills and develop capacity for leadership development within community settings. This program is for elite student leaders who are interested in leadership development, community engagement and social change. Participation in the program includes intensive weekly workshops for seven weeks, project planning, project management and a one-week internship at Manitoba Association for Rights and Liberties. Manitoba Association for Rights and Liberties is a non-profit organization that focuses on advocating for the rights of all humans in Manitoba. Over Reading Week, participants assisted in delivering a human right focused workshop at the Canadian Museum for Human Rights, as well as playing a crucial role in researching, documentation and raising awareness around refugee rights, LGBTQ+ rights, and housing rights in Canada.
