Client / Owner: Public Works Authority (ASHGHAL)

The estimated total value of IDRIS related projects: 5 Billion U.S Dollars The Doha South Sewage Infrastructure project comprises the design and construction of a 45.6 km of deep Main Trunk Sewer (MTS) (depths range from 24 meters (m) to 59 m whilst diameters vary between 3.0 and 4.5 m) which will be implemented by Tunneling Boring Machine (TBM). This is in addition to the design and construction of 25 shafts that will be used to excavate the main tunnel.

The project also includes the design and construction of 66.5km of lateral interceptor sewers by micro-tunneling (depths range from 4 m to 40 m. Diameters varies between 0.4 and 2.4 m), which will convey flows from areas in the centre of Doha to the main tunnel. Furthermore, a 70m deep large terminal pump station, an advanced Sewage Treatment Works (STW), and more than 15km of treated sewage effluent return mains and pump station. The Project is designed to accommodate the projected population growth for an additional one million people in Doha’s oldest area (the south catchment). The project can be linked to future infrastructure projects, and when completed, it will enable the decommissioning of more than thirty (30) old pumping stations currently located in the residential and commercial areas in the south of Doha.

One of the important benefits of the project is the gravity based MTS that will link a number of areas in the south of Doha to the sewage network. As a result, it will reduce the environmental impacts through the full control of odours in STW and conveying system, and reduce other environmental problems arising from sewage overflow due to excess hydraulic pressure on the existing drainage network, where sewage flows exceed its capacity.
