Worked with adolescents in a trauma-focused residential treatment facility wherein the average length of stay was 4-6 months. Used a bottom up (think Maslow) trauma informed approach to facilitate the building of safety, the understanding of emotions and use of executive functioning skills. Completed psychosocial assessments, individualized Master Treatment Plans and assessed the transfer of learning through passes and the CATS, which is a trauma assessment instrument. We tracked progress monthly. My patients’ trauma scores dropped by an average of 7 points at each monthly assessment. In the cases wherein the parents implemented that which their child was learning, the home environment was improved and the family exhibited increased functional behaviors as compared to the dysfunction at admit.
