Busey Bank (Contract Position) 2018

Operations Network/Server Administrator

Operations support for LAN/WAN, Server and security infrastructure for several plant locations both in the US and Canada.

Designed and implemented a companywide architecture for network connectivity that cut costs and positioned Aux Sable to grow with little to no additional cost for many years to come. Designed and implemented a fiber optic solution using Sumitomo Electric Lightwave tubes that allowed us to run the infrastructure throughout the plant on a redundant set of paths, and then blow the fiber through the tubes as we needed, allowing for future expansion and cost savings.

Headed projects to upgrade the Morris plant’s OPS datacenter. This included migrating the servers to VMware and replacing the switching architecture. It also included replacement of the HVAC unit and new power/UPS terminations to every cabinet.

Part of the above upgrade included setting up a security model known as the Purdue Model, a layered based security model that secures each layer with different firewalls. This model was rolled out to every major area in the plant.

Designed and implemented a new and robust backup recovery system for the Operations network as well as the PLCs and other plant equipment. Backing up and sending off sight all required configurations for DR.

Sole network engineer supporting and maintaining the LAN/WAN, Server and security infrastructure for a diverse organization with unique demands and requirements.

Architected and implemented the LAN environment - moving CSF from an inefficient flat network design to a robust routed VLAN infrastructure – building redundancy into the design everywhere possible.

Led project to convert CSF Novell file servers to MS 2008 file servers.

Led project to convert from Novell GroupWise mail server to fully redundant Exchange 2010 email system running on HP 5500 platform. Also incorporated and managed ZIX email encryption into Exchange.

Led project to upgrade/rebuild CSF Citrix farm – redesigning a whole new farm on multiple 64-bit servers and migrating over 60 applications.

Solely responsible for the firewall, security and VPN setup and support at CSF. Led project to implement Palo Alto next generation firewalls behind our exiting Juniper FWs and F5 GTM load balancers. Later started to migrate the Content Filtering functionality from Blue Coat Proxy Filters to the Palo Altos.

Solely responsible for the architecture and implementation of a Cisco Nexus core – moving away from legacy HP Procurve equipment while keeping multi-vendor links and connectivity during a year-long process.

Key project leader in the initiative to virtualize over 100 servers onto VMware platform utilizing 3-Par 7400 SAN storage. Setup and supported the Network and Fiber Channel connectivity. Also supported the P2V efforts and was instrumental in troubleshooting and resolving issues with CRC errors in the SAN Fabric.

Lead project to implement F5 load balancers (Global and Local traffic management). GTM allowed us to manage external DNS and multiple ISPs seamlessly, and LTN allowed us to load balance between the ISPs.

Worked on implementing wireless throughout all CSF offices utilizing Cisco ISE solution.

Worked on implementing Palo Alto next generation firewalls, replacing CSF legacy Juniper firewall and Bluecoat Proxy content filter.

Infrastructure Architect

Supported and maintained the LAN/WAN infrastructure as a member of a national team responsible for over 450 sites worldwide.

After Lincoln merged with Jefferson Pilot in May of 2006 – helped design and implement plans to seamlessly integrate the two legacy networks into a single, robust, manageable WAN environment. This required overcoming several issues including multiple default routes, the increased bandwidth requirements at the core sites, the use of different routing protocols and standards between the two companies and a need to in-source all LAN/WAN infrastructure support across the country.

Led projects to upgrade the WAN lines, hardware, and the routing and switching fabric at the Arlington Heights location after the JP merger due to a growth in personnel which over taxed the existing infrastructure at the location.

Led a project to replace the existing Harris 20/20 PBX at the Arlington Heights location with an Avaya S8520 VoIP phone switch, completing the project seamlessly and on time.

Devised the standards for phone, network and power distribution on multiple build outs of additional office space. Acted as the liaison between the vendors and contractors during these build outs.

Created new procedures that saved Helpdesk countless hours in imaging computers.

Often assisted other team members, including DBAs and Software Developers, with issues during rollouts of new applications. Correctly diagnosed problems to root cause and presented them with quick fixes as well as long-term solutions.

optimally configure the office, datacenter and trading room space for network, phone, HVAC and power. Devised the standards that were later re-used for future build-outs projects.
