By way of "servant leadership" to the Kaneka Team and customers (internal & external), provide leadership and direction for IIoT Technology, Process Analytics and Machine Learning deployment for Demand Planning in Kaneka manufacturing and business systems providing a greater degree of SAFE and Efficient operations across the company. Provide support through operations planning through the administration of proper execution and scheduling for all maintenance work and reliability engineering activities at Kaneka North America (KNA). Supervise the activities of Maintenance and Engineering Superintendents/Supervisors, and all planning and scheduling. Working through management and supervision, exercise administrative control over the safe activities of the maintenance and reliability engineering team, and outside services providers. Continuous communications and coordination with all our plants and their individual departments to assure continuity, product quality, and safety of equipment/personnel. Collaborate with our manufacturing centers in Japan, Belgium, and Malaysia to assure the highest production quality through standardized maintenance and engineering practices. Develop and administer contracts with outside construction firms, communicate with various outside agencies as required, and administration of contracts with various providers for our plants, their modifications, maintenance and repairs.

Spearheaded IIoT/OT convergence technology for the company on a single platform SAP S4 HANA w/machine learning for process and business data unification enabling higher efficiencies and cost effectiveness. This technology will enhance company ability for Demand Planning and “intelligent” operations forecasting.

Modernized KNA’s electrical infrastructure from the high voltage (138kv) to low voltage (120v) with state of the art transformers, motor control centers and SCADA monitoring and controls meeting or exceeding NFPA arc flash, OSHA, and ERCOT (ISO) requirements.

Collaborate with Kaneka overseas manufacturing centers in Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, and Belgium to standardize an international set of KPIs enabling uniform reporting for revenue/expense on a single platform.


Director, Senior Plant Manager IPP

Spearheaded accountability for operations planning and business process re-engineering of Florida Crystals Corporation (FCC), Okeelanta Sugar Complex, New Hope Power Company (one of the largest biomass cogeneration facilities in the world). This includes business and technical operations, maintenance, financials, human resources, and compliance with all County, State, and Federal guidelines, safety and environmental regulations. This is one business unit in the FCC global presence in 16 countries and 4 continents.

Hold P&L responsibility for business unit (28M USD annually) through direct training, leadership and supervision of 6 department heads, 4 engineers, 5 exempt level supervisors, and 55 non-exempt team members spread across the business unit. Achieved record harvest, facility availability and revenue during my tenure 2014/2015 crop year.

Using the Deming Quality methodology for continuous improvement, coached and mentored Self Directed Work Teams to develop standards and implementation protocols, including internal audits for compliance with ISO 9000, 14000, & 19011 for quality program / system and environmental criteria compliance. These audits also have a place in software performance and compliance. An example being EBS criteria and FLSA applicability. These audits and their employee ownership saved the business over $1.5M annually, during 2013 through 2015.

BABCOCK AND WILCOX COMPANY, West Palm Beach, FL 2006 - 2013

General Manager - Operations and Maintenance - Project Manager IPP

Forged a new direction and strategy for policy development and implementation for BWC’s sole commercial renewable energy project in the US. Accountabilities included both administration of the existing facility, consisting of two units, and the design / build phases of three new units being added to the existing facility footprint. Span of control met through eight senior managers and in excess of 200 technical / skilled crafts staff, financial staff, EHS (HSE) staff, human resources staff, and engineering staff - both company and contract engineers.

Business development included operating contract renewal for existing facility valued at 650M USD over 20 years and the new facility contract award for design/build/operate valued at 960M USD over 20 years. New facility included global vendor involvement partnering with such companies as the Danish firm Volund whose grate design was a first of a kind installation in the US marketplace. This kind of design/installation required many days collaborating with Volund engineers in Denmark and then in the United States to effect a successful integration into the overall facility design/build.

Galvanized turnaround situation in Operations and Maintenance activities for 3 facilities, fuel manufacturing/processing including scrap metals recovery business, power generation, and water purification and treatment.

Transformed contractual activities and relations between union and non-union employee groups, as well as vendor relationships.

Hold P&L responsibilities (33M USD annually) as well as project deliverables on the new construction side (250M USD over 22 months), demonstrating a very hands-on style of leadership and management.

Specialized engineering activities and projects included leading an effort to design, configure, validate, install and test a new EMERSON Ovation distributed control system (DCS). Recognized expertise in NERC/FRCC compliance programs.

Developed performance metrics for Operations Planning, i.e. consolidated operations and financial performance for 7 consecutive years, meeting or exceeding these metrics and achieving record profit margins. Incorporated life cycle costing criteria and SDLC protocols to demonstrate the engineering equivalency between hardware and software to further enhance performance and acceptance of traditional means such as TQM, planning and process management as tools equally important to the hardware side of business processes as software is. Value to business over 7 years was in excess of $10M. One example is exceeding fuel manufacturing/processing guarantee by 40% in 2011/2012.

Manager - Department Head – Maintenance IPP

Steered general management and technical direction in a turnaround situation for a department at a Waste-to-Energy power plant facility.

Designed and implemented part of the company’s Demand Planning strategy through an Enterprise Maintenance Excellence program, including IT, preventive / reliability centered maintenance and planning / scheduling functions.

Fortified leadership for P&L, human resources, budget ($20M annual operating budget and $10M annual capital program budget), procurement, financial management, technical programs, engineering and executive reporting for a department of 28 and a facility of $300M, with income of $65M.

Reduced repair and maintenance spend from $17M to $10.3M in three years, reduced inventory from $6M to $2.5M in 3 years, and increased facility availability from 88% to 93% in same 3 years, from 2002 through 2005.

Optimized workflow processes, resulting in productivity increase of 160% over 3 years, while reducing staff by 15% (through natural attrition) and increasing customer satisfaction by 67%, from 2002 through 2005.

Director, West Palm Beach Field Station - Field Operations & Director Electronics Division

Brought into this large agency to incubate a turnaround strategy and implementation plan to bring a customer centered, business oriented focus to several divisions within the South Florida Water Management District, in partnership with the US Army Corps of Engineers.

To implement the Consolidated Everglades Restoration Program (CERP) approved by President Clinton and the US Congress/Senate, galvanized leadership, management, and engineering support for technical programs in the field for areas of construction (new automated pump stations with advanced PLC and SCADA technologies), design, operations and maintenance of bio-remediation water treatment wetland systems, vegetation management, right-of-way real estate, pump stations operations and maintenance (in excess of 10MGD capacity), fleet maintenance (in excess of 500 vehicles, marine and heavy equipment), and emergency management for the US Army Corps of Engineers flood control system in the south Florida area. Oversaw staff of 120 administrative, professional and skilled crafts members. (Spending authority 6B USD)

Authored a proposal that was selected for award worth $200M, for 200 FTEs, and 10 years. Subject was production of a small to medium industrial gas turbine (IGT) for use across public and military applications, in 2013. Reference the FT 4000 IGT for Pratt & Whitney Power Systems, developed, tested and manufactured by PSI.
