Career History

Travers Smith (June 2000 – November 2018)

Graduate Recruitment Advisor

I commenced the position of Graduate Recruitment Assistant in 2001, working alongside the Graduate Recruitment Manager.

First point of contact for the Graduate Recruitment partners on any Graduate Recruitment related issues; dealt with confidential matters for current and prospective trainees and resolved issues that arose.

Built and successfully managed strong relationships with university careers services and students regarding sponsorship of events and social media advertising. Attended university law fairs and presentation events, networked and connected with students who later obtained vacation scheme placements and training contracts.

Managed the administration and production of the annual Graduate Recruitment brochure with an external design agency; held the photography day and selected photos and trainee quotes; co-ordinated all word changes and successfully produced the final product on time for distribution at law fairs and presentations.

Appointed as 'Customer Manager' to one of the firm's diversity initiatives, Aspiring Solicitors, to increase brand awareness and look at strategies to increase recruited candidates from non-Russell group universities. Successfully achieved an increase in numbers on those featured on the Aspiring Solicitors website as Professional Brand Ambassadors. Negotiated a reduced cost for a social media spend to advertise presentation events and increased brand awareness by producing business sized cards to feature a selection of ambassadors for distribution at law fairs and presentations.

Pre-screened applications through the online application system (cvMail) for the recruitment of 25 trainees a year and 70 vacation schemes annually. Used the contextual data tool for analysis on which candidates to interview and produced statistical reports to discuss recruitment campaigns with an emphasis on diversity, gender and social mobility.

Co-ordinated partner led interviews through either one or two stages and arranged

'wash-up' sessions with the recruitment partners to discuss which candidates to offer and reject. Produced offer letters, sent rejection emails and organised three annual maintenance payments for future trainees studying the GDL and LPC with BPP, in addition to payment of fees. Communicated and managed the PSC course bookings for the trainees for Core Modules and electives through BPP and co-ordinated cancellation requests. Responsible for registration of trainees and followed qualification procedures including suitability issue checks, in accordance with the Solicitors Regulation Authority.

Management of the annual publications and online marketing initiatives post the annual 'Media Day' - updated profile wording, statistical details and co-ordinated trainee surveys and completion of articles as required.

Co-ordinated all arrangements for the programmes for the winter and summer vacation schemes, organised workshops and presentation seminars, requested references,

co-ordinated seating, booked outside venues. Hosted meetings for discussions on offers and rejections and collated information and sent feedback requests post scheme.

Responsible for the Graduate Recruitment annual budget and collating annual spend.

Ongoing contribution to the firm's commitment to diversity initiatives relating to Graduate Recruitment, organising and attending events with Aspiring Solicitors and Rare Recruitment, attending relevant internal seminars and sending out social media posts via LinkedIn to my network.
