ACCEDAMIC PROJECT PROFILE:
Title : Thermal and Coupled Thermo-Mechanical analysis on disc brake rotor
Members : 4
Duration : 6 months
Abstract:
The efficient braking system can give good stability and safety to vehicles. Hence, the performance of disc brake is tested by thermal and coupled thermo-mechanical analysis by using ANSYS WORKBENCH 12.0.The only problem in disc brake is the induced thermal stress and sudden increase of temperature; this will affect the braking performance. The aim of the project is to reduce the temperature and thermal stress by providing cross drilled holes on solid disc rotor. Cross drilled rotors have more heat transfer area and less contact loading. Hence, it dissipates more heat to atmosphere through convection and less amount of thermal stress only produced. The results are obtained from both finite element method (ANSYS) and analytical method. The performance of solid and cross drilled rotors are compared and suggested the cross drilled rotors performs good heat dissipation and less thermal stress.
