MPC INDUSTRIES, INC., Delair, NJ 1979-12/29/2006 A $6 million manufacturing company PLANT CONTROLLER Accounting * Computerized the accounting systems by selecting the “UA” package with “FRX” statement program which permitted greatest flexibility. * Reduced annual expense by $30,000 by implementing a one-write system to replace the cumbersome voucher system eliminating half the accounting. * Improved quoting procedures and profitability by establishing a job costing system that guides the sales function and provides critical management information. * Set up a document tracking system allowing easy retrieval of documents. * Entrusted with the control and accountability of all cash accounts. Job Costing * Drafted a form for cost gathering that could be distributed to the departments for comparison as to quoting versus actual and how this could be improved. * Worked with the sales department to improve the quoting process. * Met with staff to try to improve productivity and profitability. Audits * Lowered audit costs 67% by doing a mini self-audit and sending the complete package with a external auditor to come to the office, reducing the audit time from three weeks to one. * Requested a hearing after a State audit which ended in a large assessment, penalty and interest and after an appeal was denied. The State found for the company and there was a full abatement; no assessment, penalty or interest. Credit & Collections * Handle credit checks with few write-offs and handled all collection efforts. Workers’ Compensation * Presented a disputed Workers’ Compensation audit to a State Senator, who presented it to the Insurance Commission, where the self evaluation was found correct and the insurance company was made to credit the company. * Shopped for the best Workers’ Compensation Insurance program to find an insurance carrier with lower premiums, reviewed all safety programs and conducted training. Human Resources * Represent the company at unemployment hearings to assure that those not qualified for unemployment were disqualified and those who were eligible received unemployment. * Established an open door policy so that any employee who wants to talk relating to payroll, benefits and anything else of concern. Help current and former employees with their needs regarding the 401(k). * Purchased a flatbed truck and selected drivers to haul hazardous material. Prepared the drivers by ensuring each gained a Commercial Driver’s License with a HAZMAT endorsement. Payroll Fwhat the account may show, to eliminate the bouncing of checks. * Negotiated with ADP to modify their program to provide the necessary data for job costing. Exports * Represent the company in the US Chamber of Commerce and the NJ Business and Industry Association. Brought in information from personal connections at the US Chamber of Commerce and US Department of Commerce when exporting company goods was under consideration. * To finance exports, arrange for the bank representatives and EX-IM Bank to make presentations of their services to assure payment. Created close relationship with the bank in order to get the best and most timely responses required for our needs.
