By Land, By Sea is the national magazine for Clan Donald USA and is published biannually. My cohort and I are in the process of designing this work, creating new columns and articles along with more exciting graphics that will give it better eye appeal. Plans are being made for history pieces, trivia quizzes, travel in Scotland articles, and a piece on what's happening in Scotland with Brexit, Parliament, and land trusts.

As Senior Editor and Communications expert, I developed the format of the newsletter and its focus. I researched, wrote, edited, proofed, solicited articles for use. As this was a new company, which launched in October 2014, I was also involved in the planning and orchestrating of this adventure as well. The website launch and newsletter allowed me to use my copywriting and SEO skills as well as my journalist ones.

In this position, I selected the monthly theme, created the article ideas and slants, contacted outside editors and writers for newsletter interviews, chose the writers, issued assignments, and edited the pieces before sending them to our proofreader then to the publisher. CWI (Creative Writing Institute), is an online writing school where I also mentored and instructed new writers in the field of journalism.

Media Liaison, Community Relations, Operation Christmas Child, Chesterfield, VA 2011-2014

As Media Liaison, it was my responsibility to make and maintain contact list with our local media as well as develop relationships with them. I wrote press releases and articles regarding upcoming Operation Christmas Child events and stories. Operation Christmas Child is a spinoff of Samaritan’s Purse.

As the Community Relations Coordinator, I established relationships with churches who would like to participate in the Operation Shoebox Ministry. I attended services at the churches interested in Samaritan’s Purse, met the church staff, answered questions of the parishioners, gave talks on Operation Christmas Child. In short, I became the face of the organization in this area.
