Serving on a two-year active duty tour with the California Air National Guard, I was the Civil Engineering Project Officer for the design and construction of facilities at its relocation site (Channel Island Air National Guard (ANG) Base), US NAS (Naval Air Station) Pt. Mugu, CA. I directed, coordinated and implemented the planning, control and integration of all engineering requirements for the design and construction of an entire Air Force Base. This relocation involved the complete design and construction of an active Air Force flying base except for a runway. A taxiway was constructed from the ANG Base to the NAS Pt Mugu runway. The project was composed of six independent but interrelated design projects involving twenty facilities, a parking apron and taxiways. Each facility must itself be kept on schedule for the overall project to meet its completion date. It was my responsibility to coordinate design operations with five separate Architectural & Engineering firms on all aspects of the design requirements from inception to 100% design phase. Responsible for representing the USAF and the CA ANG on all design and construction phases in administrating the contract. To coordinate all design review conferences with the US Navy, Facilities Engineering Command, the Air National Guard and the Architectural & Engineering firms. Assigned project staff to specific phases or aspects of the project, to conduct technical studies, system design, preparation of specifications and technical plans as it related to civil, mechanical and electrical engineering.
