Senior Cost Accountant (Contract Position)

PENUMBRA, Alameda, CA, December 2017 – March 2018

Medical device manufacturer - $333M dollar company

Responsible for raw material, demo stock and finished goods inventory reserve adjustments for Australian and European markets. Responsible for the preparation of all inventory related balance sheet reconciliations and resulting input into Blackline reconciliation portal. Prepared monthly schedules and journal entries for the determination of intercompany profit elimination for demo, scrap, sales, purchases, inventory on hand, cost of goods sold and third party sales for Australian and European markets. Prepared an inventory reserve roll-forward report for external auditors. Prepared a monthly consolidated gross margin report.

Designed a Microsoft Access database program to house in excess of 500K records, with associated pivot table reporting in an Excel spreadsheet for the monthly consolidated gross margin report. This effort reduced preparation time from 3 days to 1 day.

Regional district hospital – $267M dollar company

Responsible for aspects of the accounting for a public hospital operated by a private business. Assembled a daily cash reconciliation and days cash on hand reporting for both entities. On a weekly basis completed a cash forecast which included supplemental government healthcare funding programs. Maintained capital expense requests, capitalized and depreciated fixed assets. Completed month end close involving accounting for revenue and general obligation bond transactions, the recording of payroll transactions, reconciliation of bank accounts, preparation of Tulare Regional Medical Center’s receivable schedule and the recording of grant revenue. Prepared a post close segmented income statement, new tower construction spend analysis, incremental cash analysis, CFO’s custom income statement and balance sheet and publicly reported financial statements on the municipal bond reporting portal EMMA. Yearly assisted external auditors with the preparation of audit support schedules as well as prepared California State Controller’s Office financial transactions report. Prepared adhoc reporting derived from an MS4 report writer. Assisted with recent Microsoft Great Plains ERP implementation.

Designed a payroll & benefits model that lead to the discovery of over $100K in unemployment overpayments as well as other payroll mispayments.

Assumed responsibility for a rural healthcare clinic construction grant which lowered administrative costs by eliminating the need for a contracted grant administrator.

Responsible for monthly raw materials, work in progress and finished goods reconciliations. Completed monthly ALZA, and quarterly foreign affiliate, plant excess and obsolescence reserve report. Responsible for foreign affiliate inventory and month end transactions within SAP. Completed intercompany sales transactions for a foreign affiliate and the resulting journal entry. Assembled periodic affiliate active pharmaceutical ingredient revaluation rebill, manufacturing yield variance rebill, obsolescence disposition rebill and active pharmaceutical ingredient receipts. Responsible for quarterly revaluation and manufacturing variance amortization journal entry. Maintained periodic standard cost additions within the MfgPro ERP system. Assisted with ALZA’s plant year end inventory revaluation. Processed periodic material disposition advices. Analyzed material disposition advices and discovered a $500K pharmaceutical ingredient cost understatement.
