ACHIEVEMENTS

UCLA Design Projects

Autonomous Device (Five-member Team, Two Quarters): Designed and constructed CLANG-Bot, an autonomous robot that navigates an inclined course, launches a golf ball within 10% of a predicted distance and returns to the starting point. Provided design rationale and documented process, explained subsystems, generated cost analysis and key robotic performance indicators overview. (LabView: Robot Programming. SolidWorks: Body Design.)

Micro Manufacturing Lab (Team Project, One Partner): Fabricated two wafers, applying photolithography, including positive and negative photoresist modalities (SU-8). Applied Nano Imprint Lithography process, using PMMS coating, to provide adhesion for UV imprint resist coating. Applied UV photoresist on glass substrate before using mold to make pattern. Chunked glass substrate vacuum for molding. Pressed mold to apply pattern, exposing substrate in UV light and observing pattern by microscope. Container Tracking in Shipping of Manufactured Parts (Solo Project): Applied IOT and RFID, among other technologies, theoretically improving a way to process containers at port and on vessels, monitoring containers’ conditions and locations in real time by using active RFID with Zigbee. Power Plant Design (Five-member Team): Explained design process and operational requirements of Closed Cycle Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion power plant for conceptual Google data center. Applied saturated Rankine cycle to power data center, providing alternative, considerably greener electricity.

(Project Discovery: Attempts to use heat dissipated by data center led to failed reheat Rankine cycle.) EDUCATION
