Multi-Spectral Imaging Device for Aerial Crop Monitoring NASA Undergraduate Student Instrument Project (USIP) Grant, Rapid City, SD

• Designing and testing a system to mount a multi-spectral imaging camera in a tethered aerostat balloon to monitor crop health.

• Multidisciplinary team involving mechanical and electrical engineering students.

• Prepared technical drawings in Solid Works for manufacturing of a gimbal system and a housing unit.

• Selected a motor and material for a gimbal stabalization system to allow for operation at an altitude of 1200 ft.

• The system is capable of acquiring high resolution images to precisely identify problems with crops.

• The imager unit can gather data over the course of the flight at a higher frequency than the Landsat 8 satellite.

Team Member – Robotics Competition Jan. 2013 – Jan. 2014 First Robotics Competition (sponsored by Caterpillar and NASA), Rapid City, SD

• Investigated the best design for a pneumatic system that would allow the robot to accomplish the goals set by the FIRST Robotics Competition.

• Coordinated with various groups to make sure that the robot completed all the required tasks.

• Competed against regional teams and qualified for national competition.
