Maintained 24 hour responsibility for the Nurse Staffing Office for Marin General Hospital.
Took over an unproductive and disorderly office and implemented several processes that transformed the Staffing Office into an efficient and disciplined office.
Controlled our office budget and significantly reduced the overtime for Staffing Associates and assisted Unit Managers to control their overtime, as well.
Maintained the position of expert contact for Bargaining Labor Rules.
Coordinated daily work-flow, directed office operations, and supervised clerical staff in the Nurse Staffing. Created the office staff schedules, ensuring tasks were delegated and deadlines were met.
Directed staff meetings and took notes.Created Excel reports to analyze hospital-wide staffing metrics and the impact on patient care, the cost of overtime and other issues affecting the Hospital Payroll Budget.
Obtained Travel Nurses, maintaining Human Resource files with licenses, qualifications, background, drug screens, titers, etc. and created their orientation schedule prior to their placement at Marin General Hospital in accordance with Joint Commission Policy compliance. Joined the RN Staffing Office where my primary duties were to obtain the proper number of staff members, i.e. RN’s, Team Techs and Unit Clerks for 10 Clinical units beginning with the next upcoming shift.
Evaluated our resources and placed them on various units where staff was needed to meet the mandated matrices developed by the State of California, in accordance with the California Nurses Association Union rules.
Worked within the constraints of floating protocols, Union protocols and successfully staffed all units in time for the next shift to begin.
Created an “on call sign-up program” for RN’s in all Clinical Units to sign up for extra shifts throughout the monthly schedule, working closely with the California Nurses Association bargaining unit, which created large cost saving results.
Promoted to the position of Staffing Office Manager in June 1999.
