Director of Community Outreach and Education, 1999–Present

Govern the daily activities of administrative staff and a rotating team of volunteers in support of community-based health education objectives. Oversee a $155K budget supporting a range of health promotion programs, including cardiovascular research and outreach initiatives for 20K+ women.

Research emerging regulations and analyze national health data in order to identify opportunities for growth. Oversee the allocation of program resources and drive special marketing projects from concept to completion, ensuring strict compliance with budgets and timelines.

Increased the response rate for sudden cardiac arrest from less than 17% to 28%+ by spearheading the Save-A-Life initiative; established an event steering committee and developed new educational materials to support mass community CPR training.

Increased Duke Health System’s walker participation and fundraising efforts for the Triangle Metro Heart Walk in 2017, recruiting over 1900 walkers, 200 team captains and raised over $227,000 to support cardiovascular education and research.

Developed community health screening standard operating procedures and volunteer training policies and guidelines, to implement community based cardiovascular health screenings.

Appointed to coordinate Duke University Health System’s annual women and heart disease community education and awareness campaign in recognition of subject matter expertise.

Instrumental to the success of numerous community-based health education initiatives, including ongoing efforts, such as quarterly heart healthy cooking classes.

Achieved alignment with Joint Commission guidelines by introducing standardized training procedures for program volunteers; developed new protocols to streamline the delivery of community health screenings.

Catalyzed significant gains in community awareness of breast and cervical cancer and heart health issues by leading support groups, health screenings, and speaker series, as well as the Sharing Hearts fundraiser.
